He is against the idea because when he was young he got them and they were the hard kind and they hurt his eyes and he hated them, but he doesn't understand that they are totally different right now!

Take him with you when you go to the eyedoctor. They usually have free trials that they will let you practice with. Show your dad just how easy it is for you to put them on and take them off. And let him get a good look and feel of the doctors sample contacts. He'll definetly see the difference between the new kind that are offered and what he was dealing with.

Hope it all workd out in your favor.

Contacts may have changed a lot now, but there are still dangers.

For example, most contacts have to be taken out at night, which can be tiresome at times while you can accidently leave classes on. Also contacts have to be properly lubricated, since they go right on your eye.

Plus, in the long run, glasses cost less than contacts.

But if you still want contacts even with those responsibilities, I would show your dad a pamphelet or a website, etcetera that show the different advantages of todays contacts. Good Luck!

You should probably not get contacts until you are at least a teenager. If you are, then show him you take good care of your glasses. Also read-up on contacts and how to take care of them.

The newer contacts are comfortable and work well, but they come with a lot of responsibility. You have to take very good care of them, and take them out every night and clean them every time you take them out. If not used properly them can lead to serious eye problems including very gross infections and a lot of pain. But used properly, they are comfortable, convenient and safe. Prove to your dad you know how to take care of them, and the risks if you don't.

These are the things I look at when deciding if a kid is ready for contacts.

The easiest way to get them is show you're responsible. He needs to know you can take care of them. The next thing you can do is talk to your eye doctor and ask them to talk to your dad. I wear soft lenses, and they're actually really comfortable, you can't even feel them. If you can get someone who knows more about them to assure him they're not bad, I'm sure he'll loosen a little. Plus, he'll trust the eye doctor a lot more than some random girl on yahoo answers.

I have a degenerative eye condition called keratoconus and I have to use the hard contacts, I don't have a choice in glasses or contacts. I have to wear contacts. You could have your eye doctor explain the difference in contact lenses to him. Good luck!

Say to him that you want the contacts because you feel insecure with glasses, that people laugh of you and that hurts you (i tell you this because i had glasses at school and i know) .
Second: Say to him that with contacts your vision is improved and much clear than with glasses (absolutelly true)
Last: A lie: say to him that your glasses makes you feel dizzy( contacts not).
Good luck!!!

take him to the eye doctor with you. you need to let him know you're going to be responsible and take them out EVERY night, and keep them clean.

Well, many young girls (I presume that is what you are) look pretty good with glasses. so, stay with glasses till you grow up and don't need his permission for getting contacts.
