I have a quilt that was hand sewn by my great great grandmother(rip),and no one hardly ever touches it. Well last night I slept under it and I kept having a dream about meeting my grandmother(I've never met her) while she made the blanket. I was inside of the blanket though,and everything was all...silky. 0.o;
It lasted probably about 2 minutes and it happened over and over and over.It was so weird. I say it was just a dream. My boyfriend thinks it was something different.
Bleh,I shouldn't have slept in........coffee?

Hand-piecing a quilt is a huge undertaking, and a labour of love. Every single one of those tiny little pieces has to be cut exactly the right way, exactly the right size, or the quilt doesn't work (seams pucker, etc...). Once you've got the pieces cut, then you've got to lay them all out to see exactly where you'd like all of your pieces of fabric to go (does this pattern go with that pattern?, do I have too many pieces of this colour here, not enough there, and so on) Once you've got that done, then you can start sewing the quilt top together. I machine sew my quilt tops, I can't imagine the kind of work that it must have taken your great-great-grandmother to hand piece it all. But after all of that, there's still more. Once your quilt top is sewn together, then you get batting and a backing fabric, put it in a quilting frame, and start stitching. That's where the real work comes in. the stitches have to be tiny, or else the quilt won't be puffy (really hard to do when you're going through 2, sometimes 4 layers of fabric AND the batting in the middle). Making a quilt can take months, sometimes years. (A friend's mother is working on a pattern called "cathedral windows" right now, and has been for a couple of years. They say about the pattern "Start before you're 50 or you'll never finish").
Considering the amount of time and effort and love that your grandmother must have put into making that quilt, it would be hard for me to believe that she didn't leave a piece of herself in it as well.

Well, I can tell you this: according to Scripture your loved ones who have passed on are not in some hole in the ground, they are back where they were before the flesh: with the one who owns them: God the Father.
There is no reason to think that its too weird
that your grandmom may have reached out her heart to you in a dream - just a subtle
"hello, I love you". Hey, tell me its not true that since the dream you have given her more thought than you have for a very long time - correct? I think that, in and of itself,
is precious.
You should send a message back to her
thru Jesus Christ, in prayer. Now thats something I can guarantee that she will
receive. You would be very surprized at how close our passed-on friends and relatives actually are. Different dimension, but very close.
Anyway, its really cool; don't be creeped out over it!

"Any Spiritual connection here?" - Yes. Family ties are stonger than people think. Did everyone in family add to quilt? Then it's your turn. Then your spirit will be woven into family, and your daughter, and her daughter...
Many families have quilts like this. Each piece has a story and it keeps family ties close.

Ever heard of subconscious subliminal auto suggestion?
It is the conditioning of your brain before sleep.
It makes more sense than the brain dead answers that some of these morons have given you!
Try and get a photograph of your Grandmother from a relative, and see if it is the same person.
I doubt it.

I think it was her way of visiting you in your dreams...
I was 19 the first time this happened to me.
It was my dad..He had passed away.
Well, I dreamed that he kept trying to walk up to me..
In the dream, I was sitting in my bed...the closer he got..
I said to myself..man, my dad is dead...this is a dream wake up..
Only It kept repeating like that till I really woke up..
I got up and walked to the front desk... (I Lived in the suite, where I worked) And I started tell the older chick who also worked there..
She said.."Cool" you're dads trying to visit with you"
I was like.. WHAT? huh...
She said" have you ever had a dream about someone that has passed..?" I said "no.."
She said to me.. "well .you're mind is just not open to it.."
Now that you know would you except it?"
I said "yes."
The next dream..I consciously, yet subconsciously accepted him..and was not scared.
It was cool...
I visited him at the airport..only this time, we weren't picking him up...we had to leave him there..(I guess in heaven or spirit world) but it was a good visit with my daddy. We hugged and went our separate ways...
I've only had a few more since then..that was in 91'
You might enjoy your dream if you open you're mind to accepting and "Meeting" your grandmother..

I have had dreams like that. I honestly don't know that I should tell you it was a psychological thing because you were thinking of her and that quilt before you went to sleep, or that there was something to it. It is beyond my limits of expertise on that subject.
