Because they have not developed sll of their motor skills yet. This take years because I have a 10 year old grand daughter who still needs a bib when she eats (other than that, she's in the 'talented and gifted' classes.

I heard they NEED to make a mess cuz they need to touch n taste the food to know the texture n all.
Oh n they'r not trained n they don't know their table manners

Because they have not learned to care about messes. They do not realize how unappealing messes are and they lack coordination.
