Two words: Bitter Apple. You buy this stuff at Petsmart (or probably any pet supply store), it's a nontoxic spray that you spray on anything that you don't want chewed. Dogs hate the taste. It has worked for me.
Of course it helps if you spray this on things that the dog hasn't chewed yet (and pre-spray the things you buy to replace whatever the dog chewed up)

If you want new curtains just go buy them. There is no need for guilt. We live in a capitalist society and you are just doing your part to help keep the economy strong. The chewing will go on for quite some time. We have a new puppy and my wife and I have agreed that we aren't buying any new furnishings until Jack is out of that phase even though we don't have a rug in the house that doesn't have tattered edges. You may want to reconsider buying your new curtains now unless you want to risk having them chewed.

My husband and I change the whole house with each season (summer, autumn, winter) and major holidays such as Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and etc. So don't feel bad about redecorating as often as you wish.
As for the puppy.....they have to grow out of this. My dad kept a rolled up newspaper and would pop our new puppy on the rear when he tried to chew something. We also bought him his own toys.
I remember one puppy demolishing an entire carpet in the living room. Pieces of carpet everywhere, including the padding underneath.
Some people have large cages for new puppies and put them in the cages with water and their own toys while they are at work. They also are made to sleep there at night.

Bitter Apple is the way to go to prevent chewing. And please....do not give your puppy the curtains to chew on! He could swallow pieces of material and develop an intestinal blockage. Instead, give him hard chew toys, or rawhide bones.

Get your puppy a toy, or some dentistix or other chews to keep him occupied. Its advisable to keep him somewhere away from valuables that could be ruined. Over than that, its a phase you have to go to. The most things to occupy him you can find, the better. Hope it helps

Get lots and lots of chew toys. And also, if you have a room that you could use just for the puppy that doesn't have anything chewable in it, then you could put them in there.

Toys, lots of toys. When you are not home with the puppy, leave some cloth with your smell in it in its bed. This will release a lot of its stress.
