Sony 40" Bravia TV, 6 mos. old. Inside panel is broken. The outside is fine. Is it covered by warranty?

My 3 year old, 34 lb grandson hit it with an empty drinking cup. The TV looks fine but when you turn it on it looks like lines have been drawn on the screen. You cant feel any cracks. Why didnt the outside screen protect it? Are these TVs that fragile?
Could there have been some defect to make it more fragile?

well, it might be depending on how convincing u can sound.
search the net to see if there are any other reports.

May need to claim it against your daughter/son's homeowner policy.
