Forget that, if he was anything other than famous he wouldn't have any last chances. Being poor and black would pretty surely count against him (alas) - but it's his 'fame' (is he ACTUALLY famous for anything other than taking drugs with Kate Moss? I mean his bands were awful after all) which seems to let him off the hook again and again and again.

I always think about Sid Vicious. He was a self-destructive, very public junky, but he didn't seem to get as much stick as the Docherty clown. Because he was working class, maybe? Rather than a pretty boy type...
