When initially placing the glass in the frame, is the bead of putty enough to hold the glass until the glazing points go in?
Or must I support the glass additionally in some way? There is no lip in my old sash frame and little room for wooden beading.

You should run a thin bead of putty around the opening and set the pane of glass into it. The putty should be warmed up and softened by kneading it in your hand so it is soft and pliable, and it should be sticky enough to hold the glass in place while you insert the points. Make sure the wood is clean and free of dust and dirt.

I wouldn't trust the putty to hold, it may for a few moments but you can't count on it. Try and get in a couple of points to hold it. Then you can use the putty to glaze the window.

good luck.

Remove all OLD glazing as much as possible, PRIME area to receive new glass pane, insert glass, window points and then glazing. You must prime the area for your glazing to hold up for years. Good luck Les the painter
