It is not over the top by any means. The average wedding in the US now costs close to $30K. But just because that is the average, it does not mean you can't have a beautiful and meaningful wedding for a lot less.
Three years ago, our wedding cost $10K and we had 55 guests for a gorgeous evening winter wedding with a sit down dinner. For us, the cost was well worth it as the memories we made with family and friends was priceless.

No, not at all...it's not over the top as long as you have the experience you want and feel you're getting a good value for the money. Plus, if you can afford it, why not? Just don't do it for others, social pressures, or get yourself in a lot of debt over it. As long as you're not doing that...it sounds fine.
I got married 19 years ago and opted for the Justice of the Peace on a Wednesday, no friends, and we even bounced a $13 check so we could eat out after! So, with the marriage license included, we spent a whopping $63. While we got the same result, it really bothered me for many years...as odd as it sounds, I feel like it got us off on the wrong foot. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone.
I'm now divorced and if I ever marry again, I'm going to do something much more meaningful...at the very least, I want close friends and immediate family, a beautiful setting, something that's in good taste and reflects more of who I am and who we are as a couple. That's what it's all about...it's very symbolic and deserves the forethought, attention, and time you're paying to it.

Hard to comment if it's over the top but since you have already given yourself a budget, then work according to it.
I have friend who actually set aside an amount of money with her then fiance & work within this budget. Wedding held in a hotel is too costly for them so they opt for a church wedding. They have their honeymoon in Phuket & travelled by budget airline. Her total spending for the wedding is only S$12K. That includes buffet for 300 guests, decoration, invitation card, car & gown rental & not forgetting the wedding album.
It all depends on what you ask for, if you expected more, then save harder & try not to loan. What matter most is your happiness with your husband in future! Good luck!

That's a little much for only 50 guest and most of the things are being hand made, but I 've seen othe weddings that cost more with the say number of guest.

The average total cost of a wedding in the US is $22,000 (and that includes the rings . . a three tiered wedding cake . . the bride's gown . . a tuxedo . . music. . invitations . . photography . . and food and drink for one hundred people).
So if you budget is $10,000 for fifty guests your right in line with the average.

It all depends on what your salary and budget is. My wedding is gonna cost me $50 thousand not including the honeymoon. I don't think thats expensive. so it really depend on how much money you have, and as long as you are not broke after the wedding spend whatever you can afford.

No, that is actually how much it costs for a wedding. You're actually aiming in the lower-middle class range of a wedding.
The last one I went to was over 25grand for the whole thing minus honeymoon or dress...
Weddings are expensive.

10K on a wedding is on the low end, but considering you only have 50 guests, that works out to be about $200 per guest, which is about right. it's definitely not over the top, probably about right.

$10,000 is not THAT crazy...but for only 50 guests? You should be able to have a very nice wedding for at least 100 people for that amount.
