there's only one hope for depression. That is an effective anti depressant medication. Depression comes from a checmical imbalance in the neurotransmitters and the brain and nothing in the world will alleviate unless you compensate for it. The right medication will do it. When you're depressed, you're unable to interact with a therapist by talking or be with or around anyone so talk therapy won't work. Being around people is a waste because the loss of interest makes it difficult to tolerate company and again, verbal interaction. You will have no desire for pets or taking care of animals as it's too labor intensive, too complex and your mind can't handle it. Excercise requires motivation which you have none. Until you can compensate for the chemical imbalance that's causing the depression and anxiety, none of these suggestions are useful.. Once you regain your sense of motivation and desire to do things, only then can any interaction or activity possibly help feel good.. There are ssri's, snri's mao inhibitors and trycyclic anti depressants. Some work better than others depending on the individdual. It is frustrating until you find one that works well with tolerable side effects. If none of these are ever an option, try ect (shock therapy)l

It depends. Do you know why your depressed? From time to time I have been depressed. Never enough to send me to a doctor, but...do you take vitamins? Do you eat right? A vitamin deficiency will bring on depression. Start taking a multiple vitamin. And one of the repsonsers is right on. Get some sun. Change your surroundings. If you are in the house all the time, get out. It's amazing how depression turns into OCD, too. You find you're cleaning all the time, or some other thing, but it sounds as if you need to pay some attention to you. Also, St. John's Wort works for some people. And EXCERCISE!!! Even walking will help. Good luck.

first thing, cut out alcohol. ALL alcohol. it is by far the WORST thing for depression, made my depression 10x worse, there are natural supplements that people have had good results with, 5htp, lithium orotate, st johns wort, not only prescription meds are used, and there are a lot of lifestyle changes that make a difference a difference. exercise has proven benefits for depression. It also depends what works for you, as everyone is different.

Immerse yourself in the things you love.....take a bubble bath, go for a walk, listen to your favorite music....and realize underneath it all that this feeling will not last. Also, talking to good friends helps immensely.

A great book called "Potatoes, not Prozac" is what you need. Check it out from your local library. It gives lots of natural ways to actually "treat" your depression. I found it worked great for my depression.

Another thing that helps is getting a few hours of sun a day. Sun lamps are designed for people who don't have time to spend outdoors.
