I started smoking when I was 12. And I still smoke now even though I have been fighting cancer for over a year. It's pretty easy to say how terrible smoking is and what it can and will do to you. I continue because it helps me to feel normal (though that is pretty much a cop out excuse). But there are a lot of things that are bad for you. You know what else could kill you? Red meat. How many people a year die from heart attacks from clogged arteries? And another thing. You want to ban cigarettes and label it a drug, then what about alcohol. For some reason if you are an alcoholic its okay because there are meetings and stuff. It is even okay as long as you are a functioning alcoholic. But smoke cigarettes and everyone labels you as stupid or an idiot. That doesn't seem fair. I know the statistics better than anyone out there so don't go off rattling numbers and percentages to me. Guess what? 100% of people who are born will die. It's a fact of life. You will not live forever. Is smoking bad for you and unnecessary and ultimately something that should be stopped? Of course. But you need to quantify it alone side things of the same sort. Don't put cigarette smoking in a division by itself. It IS harmful, but so are everyday things that many people do. We just don't get emotional about those things.

Started smoking at around 16, (almost 25 years). 1 to 2 packs a day depending on the day. Smoke mostly generics now (cheaper).

I smoke, yes. I started when I was 24 years old. It didn't take long to get up to a pack per day and I've stayed at one pack. I smoke Doral Light 100's.
In the past two years, I have detected what feels like a hard spot in my lungs. It has me worried and I wish I had never started smoking. I also wish I could quit smoking. I've tried to seriously quit several times, but wind up smoking again when I become stressed.

I was 13, I smoke a pack or more a day, which I have done for 20 years. Marlboro 100's red
from what I understand, only about 25% of americans do smoke, does that entitle us to minority benefits? LOL Just kidding. I know it's bad to smoke, but I just keep doing it.

I used to smoke...I started "officially" smoking (inhaling) at the age of 21...smoked about 1 1/2 packs a day. I smoked a generic brand towards the end; regular filter 100's...before that it was Marlboro lights. I quit on 3/6/03 (I was 41) and haven't wanted one since! *yeay*!!
