I am planning a agriculture convention/meeting and need some ideas about the centerpeices. I will need around 13 total and with the budget i was given they can't cost more than $5-6 a piece. I thought about doing something with potted plants from the garden center but i would need something to stick in them or some way to spize it up a bit. Any ideas? Or any other ideas for something? agriculture or western related is good but i'll consider any ideas!

How about old wine bottles with a sprig of a nice plant in them? Or stick in a candle

I don't know where you are from but, what about (3) mini catus plants in a shallow terracotta 8x10 shallow planter base? You could even use the under pot trays for the big pots.. They cost about $1 or so a piece.. Lined or filled w/ loose tiny pebble gravel/damp sand for moisture...? Have a ticket or something under someone's seat at the table and they get to keep the centerpiece ! That way there's no waste or clean-up.. Catus plants are easy to maintain, interesting and kinda western related..

buy large mason jars. put brown candles in them. buy copper wire and small rusty looking stars from a craft store. thread wire through star (you may have to punch the hole with a small nail) and wrap the wire several times around the top of the jar. (ihttp://briarhollow.com/rustyware.html) if you can find some small pieces of old wood - fence boards, drift wood, that type of thing and prop a piece or two at the base of the jars it would look rough and rugged and western.

you could also use hurricanes (from a craft store) with tall pillar candles in the center. you could tie pieces of gingham ribbon around the top and prop little farm implements (toy tractors, mini hay bales, etc) around the base.

hope this helps.

Why don't you use a modified version of a candy bar... have 2-3 vases in different heights, each filled with a candy in your wedding colors. Then you could sprinkle rose petals around the vases in the middle of the tables.

1] get some 1.5 - 2 quart white or clear bowls
2] fill each one with different produce - apples, bananas, cherries, blueberries, grapes, pears, unshucked corn, beans, peas, large carrots, brussel sprouts, beets, tomatoes
[ whatever grows in your area ]; or put a mix in each bowl.
3] could use mason jars of different kinds of feed - horse, cattle, goat, etc.; and put a little plastic farm animal it goes to on top
4] could do mason jars with seeds, too
5] could buy plastic farm toys in different colors, and put a tractor on one, plow, cultivator, etc. on dif. tables
Gingham or bandana napkins would be nice too [ match to the color of veg or toy ] Art supply stores have cheap ones.
PS - don't do the goldfish bit - they all die, even if you rescue them that day
