Believe me when I tell you that you are on the right track in sending a letter to the judge who sentenced you.
Most of the time, they don't know how things are going with people they have sentenced unless they come before them again.
This is an opportunity to let your judge know that you have continued to stay the course and are on track. Judges don't get to hear enough of the good outcomes, they just have to deal with the realities of the lawbreakers that they see every day.
I promise you that your judge will welcome a letter from you outlining your progress and an expression of your appreciation of the judge's faith in your ability to go straight!
Address it to: The Honorable (name)
Address (which can be found in the 'phone book if it is a County judge) or contact your local Bar Association--or it will be in your sentencing info.
In your letter, include the date, and begin with Dear Judge Smith ---
Make your thanks simple but direct and remark on the progress you both have made. If you both feel that you are on the right path now and intend to stay on it, also say so.
But, more importantly, after a few more months have gone by and you are both still going in the right direction, then is the time to send a follow up letter saying so. Judges see offenders come and go, so they aren't impressed with folks who say they have seen the light--they are more inclined to appreciate offenders who hang in there and continue in the right direction over a period of time. Especially because they know how hard it is for offenders to hang in there for the long haul.
Good luck to you both!

pot and firearms dont mix sweetheart;period.I congratulate both of you because it is not very easy at all. It is not very often that a judge will give anyone a second chance especially where drugs and firearms are or have been involved. You sit down with your boyfriend and right what your heart feels and then send this letter to the judge concerned. I think that the judge will really appreciate it. But you both have many years of life ahead of you yet; dont blow it this time.

Well located on your court papers is the name of the judge and on a envelope that you received is an mailing address . Those two thing's will get your letter delivered and make sure you include your return address to. Just be honest when writting the judge they will appreciate hearing from you. Apparently the judge felt some type of compassion for the both of you. Hope all works out.

You know, that is probably the most mature, and intelligent thing I've read in this entire forum.
I never even thought about it, but I am really impressed that you came up with that.
I am in the legal profession, and it slipped right by me. Absolutely brilliant, and considerate.
From your words, it appears as though you are genuine, and sincere. Good for you.
I would have to say, "Yes". I think it is an excellent thing to do, and you should feel good about yourself for even thinking about it. In fact, I'm taken aback by the gesture.
It is something I will highly recommend to my clients henceforth, and you are some kind of person. Good for you!
WOW! Very impressive. A memo will be distributed first thing. Amazing how you just find little things from the most unexpected sources.
I wish for you and your boyfriend (husband) the best in all things, and you are certainly deserving for good blessings.
Way to go. Do it. Take your time, be sincere, and just do that.
You're the kind of people I like to know. Best to you.

let it go
ever hear the expression, 'Out of sight Out of Mind'
8 yrs is a long time
after 7 yrs and 9 months I would then write the letter or go down to the courthouse and thank them personally. By sending a letter now, you'll just be refreshing their memory about what a gamble they just made
the last thing you need is for this Judge to be "checking up on you"
You could always use a judge on your side
but in the meantime stay out of their way and stay out of trouble.

If words are too difficult show her pictures of you and him actually doing the community service. Show her more pictures of you to doing positive things. Pictures are worth a thousand words. And actions speak volumes. After that just say thank you for our life. Said and done.

Well let her know how its changed your life - the comunity service - its benifits that its given you.
how things would of been different if you had been sentenced.
that the sentence has enabled you (and your boyfriend) to do things such as ....?
dont make it to' thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou thankyou '
keep it plain and simple - remember shes probably not going to have that much time to read the letter although she deifinitly would be greatful to recieve it,
