How about a personalize wind chime for their new home. There is a company is called Chimes Of Your Life
http://www.chimesofyourlife.com/Weddingwindchimes.html
This is a unique gift, that you can have inscribed with your feelings, blessings, and love. They have a great selection of sizes, colors, wind sail shapes, and they even give you examples of things to say if you cant think of something. Check out their illustration to, I guarantee your gift will really stand out.

If they have asked for monetary gifts, do that as I asked for money for our honeymoon as we were all cashed out just paying for the wedding so it was really welcome.
Otherwise, if not money, get a beautiful mongramed towel set as it will be used (try to fit into theme/colours they have in their home). Or even cooking lessons if you think they'll be into it and its original as well.
Pick something off their registry if they have one, its really not nice to get them something else if they have a registry.
What else.... Engraved wine glasses with names and date of wedding are always nice too.
Don't get toasters, kettles, cooking pans etc if they specifically asked for them
good luck

Are you asking what to give?
If they have a registry get something from there, then at least you know it is something they want.
If they arent registered then get them some candles with nice candle holders. Depends on how much you want to spend on them. You could get them a gift card to a nice resturant.

if it's for the exact wedding day, then usually $$ is prefered. People are suppose to pay for atleast their plate. Depending on where you're from (look into venues) as per my hometown plates are usually $100+
And it also depends on your relationship with the couple, if you are really close then you might give more...
The whole point is to assist them towards their new life together financially.

More and more people are going with cash gifts, unless the couple is registered some place. It is easier to give a cash card, and the couple can do with it as they please. But it is truly your choice on what to give.
