Aren't you just taking a postive emotion you feel and calling it "God"? It doesn't make sense to me, but I hear it all the time. Someone try and clear it up for me.

In my understanding of Christianity, love is not an emotion. Emotions are merely generated out of the reality of love. Love is a supernatural state of being in which the boundaries between God and us, in some sense, become indistinct.

In Plato's writings, love was described as a memory of a time when the beloved were jointed and now there is a longing to reunite. Martin Buber (a Jewish philosopher) refers to it as the "I - Thou" versus the "I - it".

If God exists, then it is certainly possible that love is a supernatural thing.

With God, love is a beautiful, wonderful thing but without God, love is just an emotion engendered by some drugs placed there by the mindless process of evolution that keeps us under control - slaves to a drug habit.

Love is not God. It is a feature associated with human feeling and mind. God cant be defined with human knowledge. bcos we have not still defined all the Creations of God. Then how can we define the Creator. In Mathematics, limit tends to Infinity and solve so many real time problems. What is this Inifinity? It is not finite. it is not within the boundary of human knowledge. Likewise we have our big universe which is 4 billion light years away from earth. When man cant even imagine one light year - distance travelled by light in 1 year, how can we imagine 4 billion light years. Now only man has made his satellite to reach Saturn planet which is just few million kms from earth. Ho can we define the God, the Almighty who has created such huge things. We are all living the electronics world. The dimension of electron is 10 power minus 30 metre. We cant even imagine 10 power minus 6 metre. Which 1 in 1000 parts of a milli-meter. How can we imagine the God who has created such a small minute thing.
Like we use Infinity, Billion Light years etc in today's science, we can only say God is above everyt hing which human knowledge can perceive.

Here's the thing. God is Love, but Love is not God. Its a hard concept to grasp, but that's what is meant. God is greater than the emotion, but He is the source of Love and everything good and perfect.

God for Spiritual people is referred to as The All Thing or All That Is, One. When Love is referred to, in regards to Spirituality, it's Unconditional Love, a love for absolutely all things that exist. When one has reached a stage of Unconditional Love then they are at an enlightened level as the likes of previous prophets/teachers like Jesus, Ghandi, St Germain, Buddha etc. The Love & the enlightened/God are one and the same, its all connected. Like anything the more knowledge one has the more that is understood how complex and deep it is. When I refer to God is Love that is my thought.

If you look back to the source of love, you will see God. When you see a person who is genuinely compassionate and caring, you can see a deep understanding of God there. Can anything be truly done in love in which God cannot be felt? I don't think so. It's a phrase meant to tell us how we can find God.
