Ok so I am now 16 years old 5'8'' and weighs 140 lbs. I have just finished Highschool and DECIDED to go to OCS or other commissioning program for the USMC, I have 4 to 5 years to go before I could join the Military since I will be at college to get my Bachelor's degree until then I commited myself to train hard so that I will be prepared by that time, I know it will be a long rough road since it is Officer's training so I assume it is 10x harder, and unfortunately I am not in shape that kinda way, my eyesight is not 20/20 anymore I need to have glasses to recognize far away objects or faces I will TRY to have Lasik surgery I could only do 3 sets of 30 push-ups with 1 minute interval between sets, I could not run/jog for 3 miles without dripping a sweat plus too much running could trigger my asthma although the doctor said with constant training I could fix that, am currently studying for my SAT and next week I would start studying ASVAB

I admire your determination. You have set a worthy goal. I am an "Old Corps" officer and offer you the following bits of advice. Physical fitness is an important aspect. Just as important is strong character. There are a number of avenues to achieve your goal. One would be to attend a school that offers an NROTC program. Take the marine option. Another would be after enrolling in college join a PLC (Platoon Leaders Course) through a local Marine Recruiter. After completing college you might join the Corps and apply for OCS through a recruiter. You might also read "One of Us" by Jack Ruppert. Hope this helps.

One: LASIK may be a DQ, so be very careful. the military is quite odd when it comes to both LASIK and PRK .

Asthma after age 13 is a PERMANENT DQ with ZERO Chance of a waiver, and don't even THINK about lying about it to get in.

Don't be in such a rush to get into shape, these things take time. start slow, and gradually work your way up. and spending too much time exercising is ALSO bad for you.

Eat Right, heavy on veggies and lean protein, light on Carbs and sweets. No soda, only water and milk. No alcohol, smoking or drugs.

While in College.. go ROTC, and choose a major that is High Tech or a Hard Science like Math or computers, those degrees are preferred over others when it comes to being selected for a Commission.

Finally, you are 16, you will change your mind a dozen times between now and when you graduate High School.

Some quick background on me.. I was 6'4" and weighed about 175 when I entered the United States Naval Academy in 1991. I was not in shape either, but don't worry about that. The indoctrination period is designed to help you reach the physical standards required by the military, and just a side note, it looks like you already meet them.
Do not get lasik. It may disqualify you from service. It will not help you get an aviation position. In addition, Do not take the ASVAB. That is an enlisted admission test. You will want to enroll in the NROTC program at you college, or apply directly to OCS school (Marines OCS is in Quantico VA) or, you can apply to the USNA. 30% of each graduating class become Marine Officers. Im not in the military, but my husband is. You sound like a determined person who is on their way to becoming an officer. Keep working out and taking good care of yourself. Eat properly, avoid drinking and partying.

Listen to the other 2 posters, they sound like they know what they are doing.

Good luck
