I wish I could- but I suffer from the same problem. I get up in the morning and I turn on my laptop while I brush my teeth and now here it is almost 6am and I said I was getting offline 5 hours ago.

I think you need to "turn it off" for a couple weeks. You need time away from the computer to really think about what's important in your life. Is myspace the be all, end all of social activities? No, not really. You need to remember how you spent time before the internet. It'll be hard for you but give yourself a couple of days and then just unplug it. Give the power cord to a friend and tell them not to let you have it for 2 weeks. I promise it will still be the same when you return. Get some sleep during this time. Take long walks. Hit the gym. Make a goal to meet two new people. Think about your life and what you really want. As yourself if your internet activities are really contributing towards your goals. If you find that they are not, when you do get back online, only do things that push you in a forward direction in life. If you find yourself feeling addicted again, shut it down again. Keep at it until you are able to limit your time and only do things that have a positive effect on your life. You say you "can't stop" but you actually can. You have control here, not the computer. First, be aware that addiction to the Internet is a fallacy. Addiction is a physical condition where the body goes through withdrawal when it is deprived of something it's gotten used to having (like nicotine). What you're experiencing (and me too) is Internet obsession. That means you have power over it, you CAN regain control.
I am very seldom successful at getting off the computer by a certain time, and it's something I really need to work on. The upside is that whe I'm successful, and actually get off the computer when I said I would, I feel a sense of pride and accomplishment. That might sound weird, but it's my experience.
For me, even having someone remind me that I wanted to be off the computer by a certain time doesn't help. In fact I kind of resent them for "nagging" me (even though they're only trying to help). But if that would work for you, ask someone to please get on your case when you stay online past your goal time.
Also, practice being offline - read a book, play with a pet, even washing the dishes is real and helps distract from the draw to get back on that computer.

Yes I think I am addicted to the internet, I am on the internet at 10-15 hours a day, sometimes I get up in the middle of the night. What can I do to stop this addiction? I know exactly what you mean.

Me too. Right now it's 6 am, and I'm still bumming around online. I guess it really is an addiction isnt it? It doesnt help that I have a laptop on my bed 24/7. Could be worse though, you could be sucked into the World of Warcraft addiction... holy crap that game seriously ruins lives... you have no idea.
I think I'm going to have to start giving myself a certain time that I need to be off the computer and in bed. It's getting kinda ridiculous.

This is a common problem that just requires some self-control. Set a time limit, even set an alarm and stick to it. Don't allow yourself to say "Ten more minutes." Then engage yourself in some other activity like reading or doing something creative. You can do it. Be thankful that it's an internet addiction and not heroin. It's much easier to overcome, and the best part: no withdrawals.

Heh. You sound like me. I struggled with this situation final one year, as a sixteen one year previous. It began while my mum and dad have been given divorced and that i moved to a sparkling state. I went to the internet for help. I met buddies on YouTube. Downloaded a hacking (no longer different persons yet ROM form of stuff) application, I under no circumstances stopped occurring the laptop. After a whilst, my mom observed. So I had to take action: I have been given a timer and set it for a million hour of laptop an afternoon provide up gazing articles, taking part in video games, google maps, flash movies, or any of that crap. that is dropping it slow. flow to a pair golf equipment in school, you could meet some genuine human beings. The flash vids are ruining your imaginative and prescient. do no longer WATCH FLASH movies! examine! workout! Do homework! attempt a sparkling game instead of laptop 24/7 Do your homework and interpreting in the previous you get on the laptop! perhaps set up a application that only facilitates you to on the laptop for an hour For the imaginative and prescient... idk see a physician... consume carrots (...?) do no longer completely do away with your computing gadget-- bear in mind that's a privelege!!!

*shrugs* Then have someone else monitor your computer time. If you've got a laptop in your room, then have someone lock it up for you every night. If you've got a desktop in some other room, then have someone lock up that room while you're brushing your teeth. If you've got a desktop in YOUR room... then you're pretty much screwed unless you want to move it out.
Don't worry... most people are addicted to modern technology (Internet, cell phones, iPods, television, etc.). As long as you don't have anything serious to do the next day (i.e. school or work), then who cares?

I don't think you are addicted to the internet, I think you need the interaction with other people. If you are always on the computer, it suggests to me that you have none or very few friends. It probably helps the loneliness to interact. I suggest you make some friends and you'll find your computer time diminish.
