I live in MA, but goto college in FL. I plan to buy a car in Florida while I am down there, however Massachusetts requires a safety and emmisions test (FL does not offer it) so I am forced to register my car in Florida.
Can I register my car in Florida, and have a Massachusetts Insurence?

Probably not. You'll have to get Florida insurance. You can ask the Massachusetts company if they will insure a car with a Florida registration, but I highly doubt it.

Being at college falls under different rules so it doesn't hurt to ask - normally, they would frown upon that but since you're in college, they might treat you different and yes, every insurance has different rules and as you might have noticed, rates are all over the board. Some ins companies are fine with you as a MA insurer but you're in college in FL - they might even offer you a discount while others will raise rates - it might be time to get some new estimates.

Generally insurance is based on where your car will be most of the time because of theft or damage, how much you intend to drive ... the more liklihood something will happen to it ... your age (under 25 major cost factor) ... and the replacement value of the car ... if you own a 5 year old minivan in a college town is not going to affect your rates much ... you own a car on the list of ten most stolen ...

I dont see any reason why you cant but it would really depends upon what kind of insurance you get. If that through an agent then you must live and get the insurance at the same state. However if its through the phone insurance, I dont see why not. But you have to remember that FL is a PIP and MA is not so their coverages would really be different.

respected coverage firms won't enable you to sign in the motor vehicle in one state and insure it in yet another. The long island DMV gets a acquire from each employer that insures autos reporting whilst autos are further or faraway from a coverage. If the documents sent from the ins co would not journey what they have of their records you will get letters out of your coverage employer letting you recognize there's a discrepancy. some states will additionally high quality you and revoke your registration and or license if data of coverage in that state isn't won on the motor vehicle via the DMv. in case you arer an entire time pupil and utilising your dad and mom handle is in long island then you certainly could get a protracted island poli cy with garaging handle in SC. Your ins co could have a thank you to top value for a school pupil out of state

Florida is pretty strict on vehicles. I think you will need Florida insurance on a vehicle registered there.
