Sounds like the beginning of an ear infection. I've had those so badly that I couldn't open my mouth all the way due to the swelling and pain that moved down into my jaw. You need to see the doctor for medication. Try ibuprofen (Advil) until you can see the doctor.

It could be several things.

One, you could have a toothache which CAN cause you to have ear pain. Smoking a cigarette draws air into the mouth and hitting a sore tooth, such as one in need of a root canal, can make the pain explode in your head.

Two, you could have an earache caused by "swimmer's ear". I'm not entirely sure of all the details about this, but I have had it and it is caused by bacteria and water in the ear that causes a NASTY infection. The only way I know that it can be gotten rid of is with antibiotics and prescription ear drops. Neomyacin, I think. Sorry if I spelled that wrong. It WILL NOT go away by itself. You need to go to the docs. Tylenol might dull the pain a little, but not much and it won't leave on its own.

Third, it could be a regular, but nasty earache and again it needs antibiotic from the docs. If it's a regular earache, Tylenol will do ok at killing the pain. It'll help if it's a toothache caused earache too.

That's the best I can tell you for it. Everything major that would kill the pain is by prescription only. The only other thing that you might be able to do is put sweet oil in the ear and cover it with a cotton ball. That won't kill the pain, but it might dull it a tiny bit and keep cold air off of it.

Sorry I don't have more for you, but I do wish you good luck in getting rid of it.

PS: If you get ear drops from the doc for this, warm them first before using them or the cold drops will send the pain skyrocketing so bad it'll make your eyes water. I always put the little bottle in my pocket for a half hour so my body temperature would warm it without causing a risk for burns.

Visit to a doctor is a must and to a homeopath is still far
better. Meantime as you negotiate with mind what to do
here is a foolproof instant remedy for earache which is
a yogic one and it goes by the name of SHUNYA MUDRA.
Another name for it is AAKASH-SHAMAK MUDRA. OK
without bothering about the meaning and how it works lets
just do it. This gesture is formed by first placing the tip of
middle finger on the base of the thumb and then bringing
gentle pressure of the thumb upon this finger. Other three
fingers are kept straight with palms facing upward. You do
this with both the hands and keep on their respective
thighs till 45 minutes and your pain will have subsided.
Frankly speaking this yogic gesture is reputed to remove
pain in 5 minutes and i have seen this in many people.
Ofcourse all are different and sometimes it takes longer
time as well. This is safer than popping any pill which may
lead to side effects. Try it you have nothing to loose
except your pain. All the best.

Sounds like a serious infection. I'm just getting over one myself. Went 48 hours with no sleep because the pain was so bad. You'll need antibiotics, probably something strong like Cipro. If you can't get into a doctor just go to the ER. Tell them your pain is severe and they should give you some prescription pain medication. Otherwise you can take up to 800 mg ibuprofin every 6 hours, just drink lots of fluids with it. Also, you can wet a washcloth, warm it in the microvave, and hold it against your face. This helps with the swelling and pain.

There is no medicine for almost all painful diseases. Hence they become chronic.
Acidity, excessive wind, cold , heat, sour food and sinusitis, constipation, intestinal inflammation;
Blockage in the flow of Vital Energy are their causes. None of them can be treated with medicine. Our 90% success in treating pains confirms it.
Acupuncture is the best treatment.

It sounds like an infection but the only way to know for sure is to have this evaluated by your doctor to see what they think is going on.

...you might want to consider getting to a Doctor as you might have a serious ear-infection that needs to be treated with antibiotics and not "pain medication".....(quitting smoking with help your health too...and save you a lot of money)
