You speak as if this sort of immigration "crisis" is a new thing. I'd like to point out, in fairness, that this situation has occurred with every single group of immigrants that has ever set foot on this country's shores. There has not been one argument in this entire "crisis" that has not been stated a thousand times before over the course of the last 300 years. I'd also point out that all of us are descended from immigrants-even the Indians, though their claim is several millenia older than the rest of us. Don't sweat it, in a generation, the children of the Latino immigrants will be using the same arguments against whoever the newest batch of immigrants are. :D

You bring up excellent points. But to tell you the truth multiculturalism is just the tip of the iceberg. Yes, the US has always been a melting pot--people come in to the US and assimilate, but when you do that you have to give up something, your foreign identity. This means culture, language, and even lifestyle in some cases. Now tell me is this a good thing? In my opinion no its not. This is not just a problem with immigration, but issues like homosexuality, and gay marriage. People expect that when you become an American you have to be exactly like everyone else. And what does that mean? Does it mean you have to Dress like everyone else? have the same interests? same religion? When you lose these things you lose an "individual" to a society you no longer have an identity, at least people who know what it is to have one such as first generation immigrants.
If you really think about it non of these things are the problem even if you get rid of all those barriers. The problem lies with your economic status, always. People who see a rich person and envy then are going to find ways to attack them, and physical appearances are always the first to be attacked... such as being dark skinned or have come from a different background. Its sad what having money and power can do.

You have some very good points. the usa the melting pot of the world, is what helped to make this country great. But it is now a problem that every country around the world is having. The Immigrantion status is the tipping point for all countiers around the world. The reason is simple, it is called world population and resource. Rigth now it is around 6.6 billion, in the next 10 to 15 years, it will grow to 15 to 20 billion! Think about, were are they going to go. And not for nothing, forget about what reason's might be, but caucasians world wide are having enough trouble just reproducing themselves

What you fail to realize is that the American culture, as a single entity, is a single culture. We are Americans.
Your argument is right... but you are referring to a belief structure, where we all share similar ideals. That would most definitely make homogeniality possible and therefore more consistent laws and more happy people.
But the same could be said if we all shared a common religion.
But, when it comes down to it, we all will always have differing opinions, no matter how subtle.
Racism is whats causing the social problems... more generally, prejudice at large. Intolerance and bigotry is the culprit. Ignorance. Prideful arrogance. Not cultural differences between individuals.
How does multiculturalism that you are talking about force immigration to crisis levels?

No country has accomplished so much and in such little time and I do not think it could have been accomplished without a multicultural melting pot of sorts.
No I do not think the immigration problem is due to that. It is a definite problem. Its lack of enforcement of laws mostly.

If Mexico was like the USA and the USA was like Mexico, I would go to Mexico and so would alot of people.
You must remember us Caucasians came off the boat too,
The Statue Of Liberty,
A symbol stands for an idea. The Statue of Liberty stands in Upper New York Bay, a universal symbol of freedom. Originally conceived as an emblem of the friendship between the people of France and the U.S. and a sign of their mutual desire for liberty, over the years the Statue has become much more. It is the Mother of Exiles, greeting millions of immigrants and embodying hope and opportunity for those seeking a better life in America. It stirs the desire for freedom in people all over the world. It represents the United States itself.

Multiculturalism diminishes every culture it purports to uplift. I don't blame the current state of immigration on it...I blame the corporate business world for it's demand of cheap under the table wages.

No, the problems come when you have too much of one race(like the loads of illegal Mexicans who refuse to assimilate and keep pumping out babies that they can't afford to raise properly).
Think of it as what happens in the nature. Each Eco system needs enough diversity to sustain it's intricate balance. when human beings try to simplify things and destroy lots of the members of this most complicated chain of life, you have endless problems that we don't even know how to solve. Same thing with humans, remember what happened to some royal families in both Europe and Russia? if too much inbreeding is going on? you get offsprings with all kinds of birth defects, and weak immune systems, on and on.
In my opinion, the overwhelming number of the illegals is also destroying the diversity of the social eco system.

There is only a myth of the melting pot. The myth has been a lie. Multiculture is the wave of the future.

yes, i can safely conclude that multiculturalism plays a part in this. you see, i believe we have been celebrating too much diversity!! im not saying diversity is bad, but too much of it tends to divide a society so to speak, to the point where more hatred can be created and conflicts will arise. if you balance the scales, when theres too much diversity being celebrated, there always one group that gets catered to more than the other, especially if the race card is used and the refusal to integrate in this society. in fact, isnt this very thing going on in this country???
