This is endemic. There is no arguing that. I constantly get cops in trouble for breaking traffic laws (parking is the easiest to bust them on). It does happen and it happens a lot. Additionally, I know cops can speed etc, if it's job related. That isn't breaking the law then. That doesn't apply. I am talking about not using turn signals, rolling through stops, exceeding the speed limit, parking illegally etc. when you have no legal right to do so.

I just want to get it from the horses mouth:

Why the hypocrisy? Why do you feel you need not apply the law to yourselves you but apply to civilians? If it is your job to "enforce the law" how is that job not applied unto your own driving? Do you realize how disrespectful and irritating that is?

And if you state that you DO NOT break traffic laws ever, are you pulling your coworkers over? If you are not, how is that fair?

bottom line: the law is the law is the law in my question (in reality too)

Scruffy: Are you a cop? why don't you just answer the question? How is it I "need to get a life" for holding cops accountable for the law but if they do the exact same thing to civilians it's such a noble, worthwhile things. You just seem hypocritical.

my2cents: I will go anon or not. Doesnt matter. And yes, I research if what they are doing is legal or not. I don't just assume. THe feelings I have towards cops that break the law are the exact feelings a cop would have for a civilian law breaker. I don't have a right to have disdain for cops breaking the law? That to me is unfair.

Jimmy: Correct. Don't you find that hypocritical, imbalanced, and irritating?

ERIK: lots of things:
What happens when a civilian parks illegally? Tow? Ticket? you think a civilian gives a rats *** about being ticketed or towed by cops??? So you admit you are an arrogant jerk who feels he is above the law? no surprise. Just as I thought. It's cops like you stirs up the animisoty from people. And from what I am hearing you deserve every bit of it. How dare you be so disrespectful of the law, of citizens. How DARE you pull one single civilian over and say the garbage about the law you said in your post. And how dare you say I am generalizing? I stated clearly in my question that IT IS REALITY. If it is happening in general, then it's OK TO GENERALIZE. IF cops didn't break the law I wouldnt be able to generalize.

You are instantly worst person I have come accross in a while.

I am not done with you. email me at carsonweiler@yahoo.com, if you have the guts.

ERIC: I have a hard time believing you are serious or that you are actually a cop. You can't say that the law doesn't apply and be a LAW ENFORCMENT OFFICER. Who are you to make up your own laws? I thought you were supposed to enforce them. Where do you get off holding others accoutable whilst saying in the same breath that you don't give a rats *** about the law.

You are a real peice of work.

ERIC: YOUR THIRD DRESSDOWN. My original question was very a very simple, straightforward question that deserved a simple honest answer. Instead I get a load of guff, cus words, and a LEO ADMITTING he doesnt care about the law. And you have the nerve to ***** about people bitching at you. WHY DO YOU THINK THEY ARE DOING THAT!

YA DESERVE IT!! YOU EARNED IT AND IT'S HERE FOR ALL TO SEE.

oh, and one more thing, RESPECT GETS RESPECT. You want to get respect, you GIVE it. Otherwise enjoy being dressed down.

ERIC: one more thing, I want to refer you to what you stated in this answer: http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index;_ylt=AoUyMzCjm7.HBBXjKg0F3PLty6IX?qid=20070704191826AAkTnWL&show=7#profile-info-bZMvUg3Baa

You said "I tell them what they did was wrong". But here you are saying you "don't give a rats ***".

THIS IS WHY YOU GET YOURSELVES IN SO MUCH TROUBLE. What is wrong with you? WHAT?

EL SCOTT:
Where is the proof? You are a cop right? You don't see either yourself or coworkers breaking traffic laws? You seem to be playing dumb with me "huh? cops break traffic laws....um...no thats not possible....umm...."

My proof is that I live in Denver and see cops breaking the law. I have a cousin that is cop and he breaks traffic laws. I have done ride-alongs with him and see his coworkers breaking traffic laws. I report law breaking cops to Internal Affairs and hear back that the cop got talked to or reprimanded.

You ask me how it is a problem? It is a problem cuz it's against the law. What is so hard to understand about that? You aren't making sense.

EL SCOTT AND ERIC: great job avoiding the original question and just spouting guff. Real mature. Why can't you just be respectful and do the right thing??

Sounds like someone has an ax to grind. Yawn.

Where is the proof of this endemic problem? I could argue it. Simply stating it is a problem does not make it one.

Edit: Never said it didn't happen. Said I disputed if it was a true problem or not. The laws of the state I live in allow me to prudently ignore traffic laws (rolling through stop signs for example) when in route to a call. I'm sure the woman being beaten by her husband wouldn't care if I did that.

I know I'd hate to be the subject of an Internal Affairs investigation for failing to use my turn signal. God that would be a heinous waste of a Garrity Rights Form.

You sound like an angry person who found a hobby. Glad you're having fun with it. Although I suspect you are a troll. It is illegal for agencies to divulge any disciplinary action taken against an officer in a complaint. Agencies can tell the complainant if their complaint was "founded", "unfounded", "sustained", etc. However, they can not, by law, tell someone what disciplinary action was taken. I have to have a witness present when I look in my own personnel file. It is difficult to learn a new hire's previous work disciplinary action when hiring someone from a previous agency. You mention in your response to me that you have been told about officers being reprimanded. I really doubt the Denver PD is dumb enough to engage in that kind of violation against its employees.

first of all, i'm no longer Police Officer yet I do artwork for the Police branch. i'm a Communications Unit supervisor. maximum states have rules on the books wherein the site visitors rules don't be conscious to an ON accountability officer. If we obtain calls from the accepted public approximately an officers using conduct we continually handle it with the officer. To make this manner of vast assertion as "law enforcement officers think of they are above the regulation" is an extremely naive assertion. fairly some the departments I even have seen and talked to have a coverage of in case you do no longer save on with the regulation then do no longer write tickets for it. whilst I accept as true with the theory law enforcement officials ought to be putting a some distance better accepted than the accepted public, how are you able to comprehend that he wasn't en-course to a decision and then have been given canceled? Why do no longer you touch your interior reach branch and set up a trip-a-long for a Friday or Saturday night or night shift? it would be a watch opener for you approximately why the police do many of the failings they do. No we remember we are paid publicly, yet bear in concepts we pay taxes too. Does that propose we are self employed? If no longer all of us desire a advance from something of the taxpayers. I watch for your reaction.

Are you serious? Who gives a rat's *** about traffic violations? I only use those as an excuse to stop turds I want to search for guns and dope.

As for the whiners talking about cops using lights and sirens to break red, then turning them off. How ignorant and misinformed are you? I do it (5 times a day)...when I'm on my way to a hot call and don't need to alert the scumbags that I'm on my way in try and get them, or to back up my partner that just stopped 6 guys around the corner. Sometimes my call was canceled while on my way (3 times a day).

Doomsday whiners! Oh no, the police are the embodiment of the anti-Christ! Just think for a minute or ask a question before generalizing about how "all" or "most" cops are bad seeds.

Keep up the cop watch, you're doing the community a real service by turning in those poorly parking pigs.

*****ADDITION*****
Way to go! Misread my answer to suit your deep seeded anger issues with law enforcement. It doesn't matter what I write, you'll twist my words to support your evidence that ALL cops are evil mad men hell bent on breaking traffic laws. That is why we decided to serve and protect right? So we could drive fast and endanger people? Yeeeehaaaaaawwww.

Dress down? Hahahahaha. You can't do it.

I am not a cop but I got pissed off at a cop for almost hitting me because he drove through a red light with no siren or lights. I got him to pull over. He was calm and cool about it and I explained why did you blow a light yet stopped at this light around the corner. He calmly explained sometimes a call occurs like an alarm goes off and then it gets cancelled in route. IT DOESN T ******* MATTER. I DIDN T SEE YOU COMING SO IF YOU CRASHED IN TO ME ITS YOUR ******* FAULT ASSHOLE. You have to drive safe like the rest of us. Then another time a cop was speeding behind me and I was doing 35 he comes behind me and proceeds to tailgate me. So I slammed on the brakes. He got out of his car and screamed at me and threatened to take me to jail. Why? If you are going to an emergency then go around me or put your lights on or well then..why are you wasting time talking to me? Asshole. So I ve learned..the best thing to do is mind your own business and don t even talk to them or provoke them. They know they are being assholes..no need to point it out.. When they come to your aid be thankful, any other time ignore them because they have a great deal of anger inside because their job sucks even if it pays well. Would you want your boss waiting at your desk because you took a 15 minute **** that was 5 minutes too long?

ok i have answered this question many times and i know it is a big concern with everyone.
i not gonna beat around the bush, i speed,i roll through stops, i dont use my turn signal much.

but listen to this, i work for a sheriffs dept in mississippi. county population of about 20,000 its mostly rural, the city (yes only one city in our county) is small, population of about 8000. there are 4 patrolman at a time in the city. the county hoowever, only has two deputies at one time to cover the entire county. we are constantly goin to calls. the longest distance between two ends of the county is about 45 miles thats 45 miles of county roads. its takes a long time to get to calls. some calls require we get there pretty quick but dont warrant for lights and sirens.

another example, if we have a bank alarm we cant use lights and sirens cause if the robbers see or hear us comin they could hold up hostages.

majority of the time, we have reasoning for this. othe rtimes we dont. we are human just like everyone else. yes we should set the example. most of the time we do. but like i said, we are all human and slip every once in awhile

Are you talking about cops in their personal cars or in marked vehicles?

Your question sounds like you have had problems with police and are angry about something. Why don't you take it up with your local police? Do you get cops in trouble in person or anonymously? Do you just hate or do you try to talk to cops and ask them questions directly about how their job works? You sound angry.

Police Officers are EXEMPT from any and all traffic laws while in the "official" performance of their duties...which means they DON'T have to signal a lane change, DON'T have to drive the speed limit, DON'T have to stop at a stop sign or red light, DON'T have to wave at you when the drive by your house, DON'T have to cook you breakfast in the morning, etc etc etc...get a life, get a job, and get over it..!!

It's "endemic"? You "constantly get cops in trouble for..."

I think maybe you need a life.

**EDIT**
No, I'm not a cop. I am a civilian. So, please, don't do me any favors by holding cops accountable for me (one of the "civilians" you are supposedly working on behalf of).
So, what is your occupation?
Do you work for Internal Affairs?
If not, then GET A LIFE.

scuzcat you should appreciate what is being done here. What about the cops who drove me to county at 90mph, lights on only when there was traffic? RECKLESS ENDANGERMENT? ATTEMPTED MURDER? They use the light to go to the donut shop but I don't think 90mph was. BTW, why is it that they got me for Poss. of CDS(1/2 gram), but a dust covered baggy was all ther lab recieved? OOPS!!! The night I was taken to county, the LA drug cop come out snorting, saying that was good. It wasn't the coffee he was talking about. They offered to let my gf go free if she'd put out. I caught them after I got out trying to sneak up to my house at 2-3am. I see no other alternative but death and dismemberment. And yes I'd turn myself in for it and probably be acquitted. Since the one cop who was fired after being investigated is dead there are the other 2 who have no clue what's coming. The agency ibnvestigating quit after he died. Now , just like always I will have to show them just who they have perturbed. There are no grudges here, this is fact, if you don't do it' I WILL!!!!!!! I know for a fact that they would rather have their own kind after them but it was a case of stopping at the half way point. I did tell the agent in charge the way things are in this community, so when it is brought out who will really be to blame? I tried to do it his way now it's my turn. Vengeance is mine and is only inevitable! This is not the bib;le this is me!!!!!
