If you want to know about Krishna, it is best to learn about Him from someone who knows and LOVES HIM. This is the first consideration in such a lovely question as yours.

Just think, IF I asked your enemy, "Can you tell me a little about Arsenio?" Even if the enemy told was educated about you, he could never say anything true. Without love, no person can be known.

My Gurudeva, knows Krishna more than anyone I know. He deeply loves Krishna! He is so in love with Krishna that in his old age, he travels around the globe year after year, country to country, just telling people about Krishna's name, fame, pastimes, associates, and glories!!

All Glories to Sri Krishna!! The Supreme Personality of Godhead! The source of all that be, past present and future!
He is the most famous and yet many don't know Him personally.
People call Him Raama, Govinda Christ etc etc....
He has thousands of names, but He is one.

Krishna is God!
Not only is He God--He is the original form of God and all the other incarnations of God are His expansions!
He is extremely Beautiful, never ages past 16-His transcendental body is blissful, all-cognizant and eternal! He controls all the demigods! He attracts all by the sound of His flute--He is the color of a dark rain cloud---His eyes are like the lotus petals, And He is very kind to His devotees!

The gem of Truth has many facets.

There are common themes for many of the schools within Hinduism that can be found in the Vedic scriptures, and such works as the Bhagavad Gita. Remember yoga originated out of Hinduism. Most people only know the physical forms of yoga, called hatha, but those techniques area actually preparatory techniques for the higher practices of the spiritual types of yoga such as jnana, karma, and bhakti. You can practice a form of hatha but it helps to be grounded and centered in some sense in the higher forms of yoga or all you are doing is stretching. In the highest practices of yoga, they all lead to complete bhakti - surrender.

If you are interested in the yoga teachings of Lord Krishna, then one thing you may want to focus on to learn and practice in a more nonsectarian manner is the Uddhava Gita. The Uddhava Gita is a summation of the essence of the Bhagavad Gita (and the simplest and most direct practice of yoga), and so it is eminently suitable for nonsectarian, universal teaching which is the essence of Hinduism.

Here is a short summation of the Uddhava Gita which is found in the Srimad Bhagavatam (also known as Bhagavata Purana) 11.7:

EPILOGUE - LORD KRISHNA'S LAST SERMON

At the end of another long sermon comprising of more than one thousand verses, disciple Uddhava said: "O Lord Krishna, I think the pursuit of God as You narrated to Arjuna (in the Bhagavad Gita), and now to me, is very difficult indeed, for most people; because it entails control of unruly senses. Please tell me a short, simple, and easy way to God-realization." Lord Krishna upon Uddhava's request gave the essentials of Self-realization as follows:

· Do your duty, to the best of your ability, for Me without worrying about the outcome.

· Remember Me at all times. (Note that this is the point of chanting things like the mahamantra - Hare Krishna, Hare Krishna, Krishna Krishna, Hare Kare, Hare Rama, Hare Rama, Rama Rama, Hare Hare which is often chanted in kirtan or a variation of it. The whole point of kirtan and mantra is remembrance.)

· Perceive that God is within every living being. Mentally bow down to all beings and treat all beings equally.

· Perceive through the activities of mind, senses, breathing, and emotions that the power of God is within you at all times, and is constantly doing all the work using you as a mere instrument and a trustee.

Krsna is God. There are many demigods, there is the impersonal aspect of God. But He is not only God, He is the Supreme Personality of Godhead.

Think of the sun, which all people know in this world. Some call it sun, some sol, surya, vivasvan etc. All mean the same thing, the sun.

There are many titles of God.. God is a title for that Supreme Entity. Names like Jehova and Allah, are the names of God like titles, meaning All powerful, and all Great. like Jagannath which means like Lord of the Universe.

Then there are personal names of God. Krsna is the personal name of God. He has many more names according to His different pastimes and forms. But Krsna is the Supreme.

Krsna's instructions can be found in the Bhagavad Gita. His pastimes are found in the Srimad Bhagavatam.

In the Gita one of the things Krsna says is
"man mana bhava mad bhakto...= absorb your mind to Me and become My devotee, offer your obeicanses to Me, and worship to Me, by doing this you will come to Me."

Also, "sarva dharma parityaja...= Give up all varieties worldly religions and just surrender one pointedly unto Me. I will protect you from sins, do not fear."

For all I know, Krishna is just some Islamic, Muslim, Buddhist, or some other Middle Eastern religion's type of a god. But he means nothing because there is only One True God and that is the Christian God, the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.

You can read authentic studies of Indian and Euro-American Indologists.I have their works .I shall write a seperate message on it.
_______________________________________________
The Vedic Religion(which is nick-named as Hinduism by the people of the middle-east) has two kinds of Religious litreature-VEDAM-or SRUTHI (as revealed by God)-It can be learned ONLYfrom a VEDIC Teacher ( learning by Hearing) but can not be Read or Written-(Even though English translations are are available -which lacks the rhythm or METER which is Very,Very important)Sri.Krishna's name is not in Vedam. the other one is Post-Vedic litreature called as SMIRITHI -all are MAN MADE. one group of litreature is called Puranam and the other Aithihasam-Something like Mythology in Western parlance.
One of the 18 Puranam is Srimath Bhagavatham.sri.Veda Vyaasa the Author of this work and also the author of Maha Bharatham(one of the Two Aithihasam) has written a detailed account of sri Krishna ,whom sri.Vyaasa describes as ONE of the 10 Incarnations of Lord-GOD- Vishnu(Naaraayana).the same idea is later confirmed by sri Narayana Bhattathri in sri.Naraayaneeyam-srimath Bhaagavatham is translated in all the 18 Indian and many foreign(English/ German/ French/ Russian /Japanese etc).Since sri.Krishna's name is NOT Found in VEDAM -We Smaarthaas accept sri.Krishna as God-incarnate ,but not as SUPREME-GOD-HEAD.Supreme God Head name is mentioned in Vedam ONLY as Lord -God SIVA or NAARAYANA.VEDIC Vaishnavas also accept that sriman Naaraayana only as the Supreme God Head -both Smaarthas ans VEDIC(TRUE) Vaishnavas accept sri.RAMA/sri.KRISHNA as God-incarnates but NOT as Supreme God heads. ONLY the Neo-Vaishnavas -Created by Prabhu Paadha in cluding some Euro-Americans (who know nothing about (Vedic tradition) try to adamently push the idea that sri.Krishna as Supreme God-head.
