So...now only 1 billion people in the world are Atheist?

According to the CIA world fact book, only 2.36% of the world is Atheist WAY(WAY!!!!) below 1 billion!

Take 6.5 billion as the world population, 2.36% is only 153,400,000 people....a little less than 1 billion, don't you think?

This just gives more proof to me, no offense to the intelligent, that some people have NO clue what they're talking about, even if they claim to be free thinking and logical...

But still, non-religion and atheists are in different categories on there.

To Spirit Wanderer...yeah, when it was starting out there were a lot less Christians....but Atheism isn't JUST starting...it's been around for thousands of years too.

The "FACTS" Come from the census either you or your parents do every 10 years...and not just from the US census.

Brian, without knowing how they got their numbers, where they got their numbers statistics are truly meaningless.
You can look at a surveys which claim anywhere from 75% to 82% of the USA is Christian but when you check with another question you find out that fewer than 52% have ever gone to a Church for anything other than a wedding or a funeral and have no clue about what a baptism is.
Of the 43% who consider themselves as religios less than half of them can name even one of the Gospel authors. 10% think Joan of Arc was Noah's wife.
I am also not to sure that I trust the CIA fact book very much. They have been wrong about a lot of things and are quite willing to print anything that they are told to. I think I would trust Gallup or Pew more.(no kidding)

I nor any other Atheist or Agnostic that I know has every been formally asked about religious beliefs for the purpose of polling or surveying. Where in the world do these "facts'' come from? Made up obviously.

Um...so? Remember when Christianity was just starting out? They had even FEWER followers...now look at it. The ones who were in power (the Romans and other polytheists) prosecuted them, exiled them, disowned them (if they were family) hm...sound a little familiar somewhat? So just because a hundred thousand or so is Atheist, remember, Christians were the underdogs once...now it's Atheists turn. ;).
Also, I would like to know how this give you proof...I'd really like to know...

Last stat I heard was 3-4% were Atheist, with another 10% Agnostic leaning toward Atheism.

not that this specious arguement makes any sense anyway but wikipedia list one billion and that does not include buddhists who have their own category and are by a large part non theistic . the entire known civilization thought the world was flat as did the bible at one time but that does not make it so so I must state that this is all too sophomoric .

1.1 billion is the number of Non-adherents, not atheists. 2.36% of the world population being atheists is correct.

I tell you this much, even if I am not atheist, I am a deist, atheism makes more sense than all the stupid religions out there. They are more rational ,and follow logic no myths.

Actually, MOST people have no clue what they are talking about--the 5.5 billion people who believe in a diety/dieties.
