Ok, This is kind of frustrating me. I Got a Ps3 not to long ago played a Ps3 game for the first time and I thought the graphics was Amazing, Then I read that it works best with Hdtvs that are 1080 resolution types. My Tv is, a Big Wide Plasma screen that I thought was a HDTV At the top right corner of the tv it says HDTV MONITER then yesterday I got on my ps3 and Noticed it says the resolution was set to 480I and I was told the standard resolution of a HDTV is 720p So I tried changing it on my ps3 it does that 30 second blank screen if your tvs resolution is not correct i tried selecting all the resolutions and all of them was wrong, then today I decided to watch Universal soldier and I noticed the Input said underneath it 480i is their a option on HDTV' that you have to change the default resolution, because all this resolution stuff just Irritates me If my Tv is not HDTV then why does it say on the tv HDTV Moniter explain this to me please and if I have to change like a default

not enough info.

there are HDTVs then there are HDTVs and to complement them there are lots of liars out there.

to resolve this look at the technical specs in your manual.
what is the native resolution? Do not get confused by upconvert numbers. The native resolution refers to the actual dots on the screen. The set then tells that to the interface and the input is set at that.

for 1080p u need abcd x 1080 - abcd usually 1900 for this set.
for 720P u need abcd x 720 - this is usually bigger up to ~1300
if it is less than 720 then it is 480i

so if it is 720 or > the u need to figure out how to make your tv look like its max resolution to what is connected.

maybe the aspect ration
or a resolution setting
or using a different input.

Ok, FIRST go to your PS3 dashboard and make sure IT is set to output 1080....

THEN make sure you're using either HDMI or COMPONENT cables to get the HD signal over to the TV set....

Your TV Automatically switches, so you don't have any special setting in the TV to make it run at 1080...

Lastly, your games must be HD and not standard definition for it to display 1080 on the screen...

You are probably using composite video cable (yellow) or S-Video. Those cables support only standard def.
For HD, you need to connect your PS3 to the TV using either component (red/green/blue) cables or HDMI (or DVI-to-HDMI).

So, get the cables and then set your PS3 to 720p and you should be OK!
