So was this passage in the Atheist memo of the month or something? In the ancient, (and sometimes modern worldview) people attributed everything to God, war wins, losses, natural disasters, good harvest, etc...so, some kids mock God, then go play in the woods and get mauled by bears-makes sense to the people of that time- mock God and suffer the consequences. We have to understand how people thousands of years ago interpreted events in order to make sense of scripture.

Christ promised us mercy, not revenge. Nonetheless I would advise mockers to go after something safer than the creator of the universe. How about mocking porcupines? They're pretty weird looking and can be easily eluded.

And to the poster above who complains that there have been no miracles, there have been thousands recorded since Christ. Check out http://www.olrl.org/stories/lourdes.shtml for two of them.

The mockers killed off the bears. They didn't care what God thought anymore than you. I wouldn't wish that on you anyway, but I would like to see it in a movie.

You must have never seen the many faces of death. One guy gets his come up-pins for messing with Gods creatures. How about the woman who was jogging in Colorado She got mauled by a mountain lion. I am sure God expected them to say "Help me Jesus save me Jesus. Oh was I mocking him, i hope not my dogs have not eaten today.

After 3000 years of miracles it really does seem like he has run out of them. up until jesus time there were huge miracles regularlly. the OT is absolutely full of them. god is talking to people, the ever popular and hugely underwhelming burning bush, parting the reid (not red translated incorectly in the septuigent) sea, the missing to the rest of the world global flood the list just goes on and on. But for the last 2011 years, nothing.

god wants to give all a chance to come to their senses and believe. free will is required , to know if people really love him otherwise we would all be zombies and just do as we are told. but the unbelievers will have their day, when their chances run out, and the thought of a bear mauling would be nice compared to the fate of the un-believer. that shows us just how much he loves us, he puts up with alot befor he gives up.

Because these days, if a group of more than forty-two people was mocking and threatening one person, the SWAT team would be sent in. Since there wasn't a SWAT team, or even a police force, God hired a couple bears for that job.

Because they weren't mocking God, but the prophet. After Jesus, He said we are to forgive.

On the other hand, people who say God has not performed miracles for 2000 years - even, that he is not performing miracles nowadays, don't know what they are talking about!

Don't believe for one second that the Lord God causes pain and death, God loves all sinners. Start reading the words of Gods son Jesus, his one rule is love thy neighbor.
