Some states do allow 16 and 17 years old to be pharm techs, but most pharmacists won't hire them. The starting salary for a pharm tech in the chicago market is $10 per hour.

You would have to get a pharmacy technician certificate, and the requirements probably vary by state. You would have to ask the pharmacist about their hiring policy. That is something that might vary store to store; one time at Long's someone asked about that job, and was told that they have to work in general merchandise first until a spot opens up in the pharmacy.

But I am guessing that you generally have to be 18 to be a pharm tech, due to handling so many drugs. Also, 1-2 days a week is pretty rare for any kind of retail, unless they are overstaffed.

You'd have to ask them about scheduling requests but I'm sure that current child labor laws would prevent you from working many days a week anyway while you're in school.

And I'm relatively sure that you need to be 18 to work as a technician. I know you have to be certified to do that, but I would assume that since you would be handling some sorts of controlled substances (e.g. narcotic painkillers), you would have to be 18 to do that. However, they may be willing to let you "shadow", so to speak, so you can see if this is the field you're wanting to work in. And it's always great to say that you did extensive job-shadowing in the field you desire to go into, when it comes to college applications, and later, job applications.

As for the age just to be hired as a general employee, I'm not entirely sure. I know that when I was 17 I went looking for a job at Rite Aid, and I was told I had to be 18 because they sold alcohol. Since I've rarely been in Walgreen's, I don't know if that's the case there too.

Basically, most of your questions can be answered with a simple "Ask them". =) Take a moment to dress nicer than you normally do, walk in the door, ask to speak to a manager, and tell them your desire to work in the field and how you'd like to go about that. Good luck.

For a Walgreens pharmacy tech? in all threat no longer, using fact maximum states require you to be 18. you do no longer % a level to be a pharmacy tech. in case you had to paintings interior the commonplace keep section, then you definately would desire to persist with for any place (different than keep team lead. do merely no longer. you gets a commission decrease than a supervisor and are envisioned to do the comparable). yet there's a business enterprise extensive hiring freeze precise now. you are able to desire to persist with on line and it would be hung on document for 6 months. If a keep interior the section desires an worker, you will get a decision.

Why not just put in your application, and see what happens? I"m not sure about a pharmacy tech, I think they have to have some specialized training. But, you might get in as a cashier, and be able to work into a tech job later. Good luck.
