I had a root canal on Wednesday, which stirred up bacteria and caused a pretty bad infection that caused my face and neck to swell really bad. At the time I had a "small abscess" nothing visible at the gums. Thursday I went to the dentist again, he cleaned and capped the tooth and gave me Clindamycin 300 mg to help with the infection. I went to the ER later that day where they gave me an IV of Clindamycin and did a CT scan of me. At the time, no major abscess and no infection in my blood. Fast foward to today, the swelling has reduced, but this morning I had two boils near the tooth that I had the root canal on. This even I had a rancid taste in my mouth, checked the minor and there was pus flowing out of the base of my gum, so I'm assuming whatever abscess I did have ruptured. I have another appointment on Monday, will I be OK during the weekend? I'm on antibiotics and the condition appears to be improving (less swelling and pain).

You should be fine as long as you continue your antibiotics. The infection has to drain somewhere and unfortunatly it is in your mouth. Try a warm salt water rinse (use like mouthwash-try to hold it for a while before spitting it out), it will cleanse your mouth and promote healing and sooth any discomfort you have. Hope this helps.

Call the dentist's service, tell them it is an emergency, and speak to him.
Meanwhile rinse your mouth with diluted Listerine, 1/2 water and 1/2 peroxide, or saltwater if you don't have anything else.
Take your temperature every 6 hours or so - if it starts going up, call the dentist again.
Keep taking the Clindamycin!

HELLO,
FYI IT TAKES ANTIBIOTICS 2-3 DAYS TO BEGIN TO FIGHT THE INFECTION.
FOR THE SWELLING USE WARM, MOIST HEAT AND IBUPROFEN 2-3 TABS EVERY 4-6 HOURS. COLD WON'T WORK FOR THE SWELLING AT THIS POINT. GOOD LUCK.
