Actually, your Social Security Number and a tax identification number are usually the same thing. Do you mean a Federal Employer Identification Number and you want to apply for a credit card for a business? You'll have to provide this to the bank when you're applying for the credit card. It's been a while since I've been in banking, but I've heard there's a credit bureau for business information now. But I remember that the lenders I worked with based business credit card decisions on financial statements and tax returns.

Are you wondering about using a business' Federal Employer Identification number as a person's SSN to obtain a personal credit card? I wouldn't because you would definitely get caught and charged with fraud, maybe even ID theft.

I am pretty sure you could not use a tax id number. The reason for a tax ID number is so that individuals who can not obtain a social security card can file and pay federal income tax.

I don't think a bank would use this to issue a credit card. We issue credit cards where I work, and I've never seen a place on the application for a tax ID number.

Good God son! It's fraud which you and your mother could go to jail for. Not to mention faking SS disability, "working at a job which I hated the most". Why not take a plunge and get a tax ID number that way you can start a business and actually give back to society and not be a burden, who knows maybe you'll live comfortably and be self sufficient in due time.

I would think a tax id # would be used for a business type credit card.
