No women. According to the Universal Military Training and Service Act of 1947 (as amended) the draft can involve men between 18 and 45 years of age.

The easiest way to keep the draft from ever starting again is for men to ban together and file a sex discrimination case against the federal government for only requiring 18 year old men to register for the draft. One women are force to register - or risk losing all financial aid for college like men who don't register - mothers and fathers will rise up against ever bringing back the draft.

To answer your question, most likely men between 18 and 25 would be drafted first. Women would not be (in the next year).

Wow, every answer is wrong.

Under current Selective Service Law.

The draft would start with those who turn 20 years old, during the year of the draft.

And proceed upward to those who turn 26 years old in the year of the draft.

Since there are almost 2 million 20 year old males in the United States.

Only about 15% of the 20 year olds would be drafted, if we brought the military up to the end strength we had before Clinton.

IE: added about 620,000 more troops.

And it would take about 5 years, before it got to that level.

We don't have the facilities to train, house or feed that many new soldiers at this time.

So there would have to be a huge construction boom done first.

there is a few confusion over what 'the draft' is. it incredibly is referred to as "Selective service", and definite, the US reserves the main appropriate to call all greater healthful adult males a while 18-28 into militia service interior the form of a nationwide emergency. in spite of the shown fact that at this ingredient it could be political suicide for something under foreign places squaddies occupying US soil. That suggested, the selective service registration in all probability isn't what you think of it incredibly is. the government already is widely used with who you're, the place you reside, etc. they have your tax information, voter registration, DMV practise, etc. Selective service isn't to "positioned you interior the equipment". you're already interior the equipment. Selective service registration is basically to certainly come across you as "John Smith #241" out of all the different John Smiths available. Will you get in hardship in case you do not turn interior the cardboard? No. you will basically start up getting bombarded with reminder notices to fill out the cardboard and return it each and each time you probably did any form of government registration (vote, DMV, report your taxes, etc). the government purely fines the folk who refuse to fill out the cardboard. Selective service was once approximately particularly putting you interior the equipment, yet that replaced into back whilst computers ran on punch taking part in cards. on the instant it incredibly is purely a formality because of the fact... properly... it could fee greater funds to do away with the equipment than to purely save it operational. government bureaucratic companies are allergic to alter.

They start with 18-years old, and when they're used up they go up in age, but that's not usually necessary since there are plenty of new 18 year olds every year.
