No, that isn't true. According to: http://tattoo.about.com/cs/articles/a/blood_donation.htm
"Tattoo Eligibility Guidelines
"Wait 12 months after a tattoo if the tattoo was applied in a state that does not regulate tattoo facilities. This requirement is related to concerns about hepatitis. Acceptable if the tattoo was applied by a state-regulated entity using sterile technique. Only a few states currently regulate tattoo facilities, so most donors with tattoos must wait 12 months after tattoo application before donating blood. You should discuss your particular situation with the health historian at the time of donation."(American Red Cross website)
There's also info on that site regarding piercings and donations.

Far as I know the standard policy is to disqualify a person from donating blood if the tattoo was applied recently, say within a year. After the tattoo has been in place a while it's not a problem.
Check with your blood bank to make sure, but my blood bank only does a temporary disqualification for tattoo wearers.

False, you can still give blood just have to wait 6 months to a year to ensure that you didn't get any blood born infectious diseases. Blood is screened before it's passed anyway so if you aren't allowed to that would be why. Plenty of people have tattoos and regularly give blood. Just another stupid myth against tattoos.

yeah i am sure that you can give blood after getting a tattoo..the thing is that you have to wait 7 months to give blood. i mean 7 months of no new tattoo or piercing because if you add a tatto then you have to extend 7 more months from the newest work done on your body.
if i were you to be sure wait a year....or just ask the people who will be taking out your blood.

Last time I went to give blood (several years ago, and I have 11 tattoos) They asked me when my most recent tattoo was, and it had only been two months before that, and they told me it had to be at least a year after you got a tattoo or piercing.

My hubby has 2 and gives blood regularly.
Someone is trying to scare you! But you do need to make certain that you go to a legit tattoo parlor and that they use all new needles and stuff.

Each state has their own regulations.
Most states say you are not eligible to
donate blood for one year. Mostly because
of their concerns for the spread of Hepatitis.
Check with the artist about the laws in your state.
