Anole egg found?
Hi everyone,
Today I found what I think is an anole egg. It was under the log I have put in their tank. One of the male lizards was laying on it to keep it warm. I called Petco to see if I should take it out...and they said yes. So I did and it is under the light on a tupperware cover with mulch that is wet. It is night time now, and I am wondering if I should turn the light off for the night. Or lower the light and put the egg directly under the lamp?
And if you have any other advise on how to care for this egg and to keep it safe and alive...I would greatly appreciate it. Also, once it's hatched, should I get another tank while it is still little?
Thank you!

No one answered me but one person. And didn't tell me whether I should keep the light on overnight.. I ask in here because R&S has more people so if you know anything about lizards .. I would greatly appreciate your help. Thank you in advance!

I have some lizards and although I havent cared for anoles .. I would imagine the care would be pretty similar
they will need a little heat mat and the light .. and most lizards need UV if they cant get direct sunlight
for now though warmth is important for a little one
so I would suggest keeping it on at all times if it is the only heat source at the moment ... but dimming it at night should be ok
they do like the night and day thing in regards to lights on and off
I would also advise getting the most suitable tank as soon as ... because they are very sensitive to being moved around all the time
so getting it used to its environment right away is a must
but anoles shouldn't need too much space... they prefer height to width as like to climb up plants etc
good luck with your little guy xx

I did a quick google search and found the information pasted below at the site listed. It sounds right to me, I was an Ag major years ago and know that hatcheries maintain constant heat and humidity for chicken, duck, quail eggs, etc.

Good luck!

Q: What if my anole lays eggs? How do I care for the the eggs and babies?

A: Anoles breed easily in captivity, and this is certainly possible. Mating can occur during the spring and summer, and eggs are usually laid within 2-3 weeks of that. Eggs may be laid one or two at a time. Females prefer a dirt area to lay eggs, so if she is showing signs of being ready to lay eggs, a bowl of slightly moistened potting soil might be placed inside to encourage her to lay eggs there. She may lay eggs again every couple of weeks for several weeks. Remove the eggs very carefully, taking care as to NOT turn the eggs. Place them in a covered container with sandy soil and incubate to about 82-85 degrees. Check to make sure it doesn't get too dry, or too moist. Eggs take around 35-45 days to hatch. Babies will be about 1.5" long, and will require pinhead crickets or fruit flies until they are large enough to eat with their parents. Keep them separate from parents until their size is at least 1/2 that of the adults, or they could get mistaken for food....

I know for chicken eggs you keep the heat on, as the hen is usually on them except for brief times to eat. She also turns them over. So when we would hatch them, we turned the over everyday. Sorry I don't know about lizards.

I honestly don't know if this is correct, but I think I would keep
the light on 24/7. This would maintain more of an even temp.

i would think that you would want to keep the same rotation of light and dark, heat and less heat that you have in the tank.

i know nothing about lizards first hand, but i have a friend who has one - and i do know they cycle light and heat.

best of luck.
