A month or so ago I decided to become baptised at one of our church's informal get together parties. It is tomorrow and it will be in a lake. I've been brought up in a strong christian assembly of god background and I believe that god is the creator and the bible is the word of god. My question is that when i signed up to be baptised, i felt more connected to god than ever before. And now, a month or two later i feel the furthest from god that i have been in a long time. I feel like i shouldn't get baptised if i feel so far from god. I have prayed about this, and im debating whether to get baptised tomorrow. I mean.. I'm declaring my faith when i feel so far from him? I just don't know what to do Any advice?

Baptism is one of the greatest ways that we declare our death to our life of sin and our new life with Christ. The first time that I was scheduled to be baptised was in March 2003. I was driving to the hotel where it was going to happen, but I got lost and missed that opportunity. I was devestated that I was unable to do it at this time. I decided to really think about this decision and learn as much as I could about the siginificance of baptism. I thought that I was ready in March, but it seems that the right time wasn't until July 2003. It was in the Chesapeke Bay, and I was chosen to go first. It was a highly memorable day. I am only trying to say that God's purpose will be accomplished in his time and way. Maybe you aren't ready yet, or maybe you are. The adversary will do anything he can to keep you from this act of obedience to God. He knows about your nervousness and will exploit it if he can. Before you go to bed for the evening, ask God to search you to see if there is anything that God wants you to deal with. Leave your worries at the cross. God is very proud of you for your decision to be baptised. It is a time of rejoicing and celebration. God bless you!

If you wish to live a life guided by your feelings rather than by the Word of God, then do not be baptized. If you wish to have a more 'steady' life however, you will definitely want to have your life guided by the Rock of God's Word. If that is the case, then you should by all means be baptized.

I have felt the same. Before and after I was Baptized. I can not tell you what to do. You just need to go with what in your Heart. Jesus said; "I will never leave you, nor, forsake you". I have found, when I feel the furthest from God something always happens to bring me closer to Him.
Draw near to God, and He will draw near to you. James 4:8

Go to the baptism. It is up to God as to whether he accepts what you've done or not. If you don't believe at a later point, then I guess you'll know whether that baptism was effective.

Baptism has nothing to do with salvation but does have everything to do with obedience.
If you can't obey the simplest and first of commands from Christ then how can you expect to go on to greater things for His kingdom?
Here's an Old Testement example of this..... beautiful
2 Kings 5: 10 But Elisha sent a messenger out to him with this message: “Go and wash yourself seven times in the Jordan River. Then your skin will be restored, and you will be healed of your leprosy.”
11 But Naaman became angry and stalked away. “I thought he would certainly come out to meet me!” he said. “I expected him to wave his hand over the leprosy and call on the name of the Lord his God and heal me! 12 Aren’t the rivers of Damascus, the Abana and the Pharpar, better than any of the rivers of Israel? Why shouldn’t I wash in them and be healed?” So Naaman turned and went away in a rage.
13 But his officers tried to reason with him and said, “Sir,[a] if the prophet had told you to do something very difficult, wouldn’t you have done it? So you should certainly obey him when he says simply, ‘Go and wash and be cured!’”

I would talk to your Pastor about this.
I suspect that once you decided it was time to be Baptized, the Devil decided you were dangerous and started to work over time to get you back.

Sometimes when we feel God is far away He is actually closer than He's ever been before. Trust Him not your feelings. Have a blessed day tomorrow.

Baptism is a symbolic gesture for the benefit of the congregation to show your commitment and towash you of your presalvation life.
I did it, but I was a teenager trying to fit in to my parents expectations. I no longer play that game and no one goes to church in the family anymore. If you do not feel comfortable with the baptism perhaps you need to reexamine yourdeepest beliefs and don't do it to please others.

Its satan, the adversary, whatever youwant to call him. He will do anything he can to keep even one soul from being saved. Just stay strong and go thru with it and pray for the spirit of the lord to guide you.

Sounds like Satan is banging on your door. Ignore Him and continue with Baptism. Ask God to give you strength and assurance.
