What would cause instant blindness while driving at night doing about 140 mph?

Lights from oncoming traffic can temporarily blind you, and at that speed it can be very dangerous. Even if it didn't blind you, you can't see that far down the road when you're going that fast at night.

That said, there's absolutely nothing wrong with driving that fast during the day.
