In Australia we apparently have the Worlds largest unmined deposits of Yellow Cake and Uranium, we are currently riding on a HUGE mineral and mining resource export boom with China ! I can see a possible future conflict of interest here ! Can't you ? Rather than supplying the worlds largest economy China, who are yet to prove themselves an Allie why doesn't the US enter into a joint arrangement to mine and share the vast deposits we have here ? It can only make us stronger and a further advance our collective strengths, than couldn't we actually be "the" watch dog for the US in South East Asia, I beleive we already are but this could be improved ten fold ! Also it would ward of any short sighted profitering by exporting enriched Uranium to China, A JOINT EFFORT is required here. The chinese realised the importance of securing mining supplies, atleast the Government refused to sell our mines offshore, but by exporting raw resources we're doing just that !

cutsie_dread, you seem to epititise the cowardly crowd we have here at times, people like u add to a hatred of economic Advancement. The very word Nuclear terrifies ignorant fools. How much damage are we doing to the environment with fossil fuels ? Nuclear is far cleaner & waste could easily be contained in 1km deep shafts in our barron interrior 1000km from anywhere. You probably support the Unions strangling us here, non intervention in Aboriginal child abuse and feeding China our richest resources when sensibly it should be diverted to our largest Allie, the US ! Wrong time of the month luv ?

There are several reasons the US has offered the Australians before and they dont want it, the US doesnt really need its Mineral deposits we have enough to supply ourselves. The US is an probably always will be an Ally of Australia if they asked for it the US would most certainly do it we just sold them our newest fighter jet the F-18 superhornet. Your question should be why hasnt the Australian Goverment ask for any help if you need it that bad we have shared technology with your country before.

The escalating of the mining, sale and processing of uranium in Australia is NOT something that Australians want.

Some Poll Results
Newspoll – December 15-17, 2006.

Total in favour 35%
Total against 50%
Uncommitted 15%
TOTAL 100%

Morgan Poll – March 2-4, 2007
QUESTION :
Are you concerned about the disposal of nuclear waste or not?
Yes, concerned 87%
No, not concerned 12%
Can't say 1%
TOTAL 100%

Newspoll – March 2-4, 2007.
QUESTION
Would you personally be in favour or against a nuclear power station being built in your local area?
Total in favour 25%
Total against 66%
Uncommitted 9%
TOTAL 100%

If these numbers were to be applied to a political party, rather than the nuclear industry, they would be a cause for that party's serious concern. There would be some difficulty in carelessly dismissing them.

There is no safe storage for nuclear waste. That is a fact. Nowhere in the world has anyone perfected a capacity to safely store or dispose of nuclear waste.

Australia used to be prominent in trying to stop nuclear weapons testing and proliferation. Since 1996, however, such activities by Australian diplomats are almost unheard of. In Canberra, an uncritical acceptance of Washington’s nuclear and war-fighting policies encourages the very things that Australia once so vigorously and moralistically opposed.

The intervention in Aboriginal Communities in NT is based on lies and hides another agenda. Why do the government need to seize the land? Howard has refused to guarantee that Aboriginal land leased for five years by the Commonwealth will be handed back to the communities. In the meantime, it may be sub-leased to a mining company or any other company. Mining operations could be up and running within five years and by then the damage will have been done. The Howard Government has always been an enthusiastic servant of these corporations.

Australian's DO NOT want a nuclear future in anyway, shape or form. And Australia should be for Australians and not some pathetic little puppet of the US. Will you please get some national pride and stop advocating that we take what the US wants and does without question and without knowledge.

If Australia was to develop a nuclear capability every nation that surrounds us would become extremely nervous and the whole Australiasian region could become a powder keg of nuclear proliferation. Leave it alone!! We don't need it and we don't want it!

Norskeyenta: BTW America does NOT 'feed' Australia!! If this idiot had his way they would. Thankfully his sort is in the minority here! It might help if you did some research and perhaps read the question.

EDIT: I am always amazed at how absolutely STUPID you are Wayne. If you LOVE the Americans soooooooo much and want to sell our country off to them and pollute our land with nuclear waste then why don't you go and live there and kiss their behinds all you want! You make me sick. And BTW: that last little comment to me is grossly offensive but then you make jokes about domestic violence against women so why should I be surprised. You are a dick of the highest order!!

An excellent idea! My only concern would be the political risk if the remnants of the old "no nukes" crowd which dominated Aussie politics some decades ago have not been diminished in their influence. Several years ago I made a proposal even broader than yours. I suggested creation of ELTA (English Speaking Lands Trade Agreement). A Free trade zone formed from the U.K., Ireland, Canada, United States, Australia and New Zealand. At the time those six nations were responsible for the overwhelming majority of oceanborne commercial traffic on the planet. The Irish "neutrality opt out" aside, we had all been military allies in various conflicts in the 20th Century as well. Canada and the U.S. have the technology for fixed nuclear power reactors to generate electrical power on both sides of the Tasmin. The Kiwis have too much reliance on hydropower. It is not a part of the planet immune to drought, as is becoming quite clear in Australia.
Lert's do it then. "Cakes for Kilowatts". I'll have a lash!

America is in joint arrangements with Australia. You need to go back to ground zero and find out more. Your information is not up-dated. Your question does not contain accuracy. Why are you angry at America ??? Your a good example of what we say: Bite the hand !!!!
