Assalamu Alaikom War7matullahi Wabarakatoh. I think the answer to such a question varies a lot from situation to another. Doctors in some hospitals do respect the believe of the patient while others don't. It depends also if you are going to have hole body or half body anesthesia. For half body you'll be awake and can talk and move those parts of your body that is not affected. Some hospitals do accept the presence of your close relative. Find out all possible choices you have and pick the best out of it. May Allah make it easy for you and increase you Taqwaa and Eeman.

The nurses get you ready, and will drape you, so that only your knee is uncovered for the surgery. Of course you will have IV's in your arm so that will have to be bare, but your gown will not be removed. Don't worry about it. Someone on here is trying to scare you. I had surgery on my knee, I went to sleep with my gown on, and woke up the same way. I had surgery on my hand last year, I was covered, completely, just my hand sticking out. I wasn't completely asleep for that one, and remember hoping it would end soon, because I could smell the drape, which was plastic, it was covering even my face, and they do that, to keep the wound sanitary. And no, you will not be naked!

They may be able to have two gowns on you --(some of them are longer now) but you would need one the regular way and one the opposite to cover the slit.
I know sometimes they make exceptions but I don't think they will make that much of one for surgery. They need access to you in case God forbid something happens to your heart or your breathing while you are under sedation. When I had my tonsils out years ago they told me not to even where underwear!!! I really go into it with the nurse...anyways...You should talk it over with your Dr. first.
They could probably cover your other leg with a blanket. I was in the ER recently and they had to come up with all kinds of things to help me out but I had so many tubes tied to me and stuff it couldn't work out that well but mostly women worked on me...
I always read it was okay to uncover more when it was a medical procedure but I understand where you are coming from. Inshaallah it will all work out.

I've had several knee surgeries myself. I know what you are going through. Typically in a knee surgery, they will expose your leg from high on the femur, down to the foot. Your "private parts" remain private. Patient modesty is watched very closely. In fact, many surgical arenas will give disposable paper shorts to patients having this surgery to further alleviate any discomfort of "exposure". These stay on the entire surgery. The gown is never removed either. You will maintain your privacy throughout this type of surgery.

Discuss that with your doctor and see if there is a way you can stay covered and just have the leg uncovered. Good luck.

You're going to have to be butt naked for the 'operation', so you better just get used to it. Wear some high heals to put a little weight on the knee. It will help with the 'operation'. The doc will appreciate it.
