I'm moving to New York when I graduate (2008) and I might visit for christmas.
I was wondering what should I pack?
I'm from California so I have nothing for winter in New York.
Also, Where would be a good place to get stuff.
I'm 17 so nothing for old people.
Also, anything in packing in general.
Last time I traveled out of state was back when my mom did everything for me.
So yeah I don't know what I should pack.
O And I might be in New York for christmas break which is 2 weeks.

What about during the spring?
I want to go during spring break too.

Please lots of DETAILS and perferably LIST form.
I'm giving 10 points to whoever can give the most DETAIL.

Thanks

the coldest months are ( december-march)..this past december and january was hotter than usual and it hit a record so carry something for warm weather incase this happens again...

-i personally don't like uggs but a lot of people wear them here in winter..or any type of fashionable boot..
-you'll need a thick wool scarf, thick leggings to wear with a skirt or shorts..
-bring a winter cap and ear muffs obviously gloves
-an umbrella

for spring just bring an umbrella, raincoat, and waterproof shoes..

For Winter:
Warm, WARM socks
Comfortable boots (preferably not heels)
LAYERS: this can include long johns (on those really horrifyingly cold days) pants, thermal shirts, long sleeved shirts, sweaters and a WARM jacket, WITH A HOOD.
Warm gloves or mittens (mittens keep your hands warmer, but I can't function in them) a scarf, a hat, possibly earmuffs, too.
(This is for a COLD day...which happens often during the winter but isn't the whole winter....and that's EVERYTHING someone could possibly wear...which means, you probably won't actually need half of that unless it's frigid)

Spring is simple, some days are pretty warm, jeans and flip flops (if they're comfortable and you can walk around in them) or jeans and sneakers with a light jacket or sweater is usually enough.

Make sure you pack a dressier outfit or two in case you go to see a play or out to dinner...if you forget anything, you'll be able to probably walk a block and find it, so don't worry too much.

You really need to wear layers. A tank or short sleeved T under a long sleeve T under a sweater under a jacket is fine. It may be 12 degrees outside, but some places have the heat jacked up to 90 inside, and if you get overheated inside the cold will feel THAT much more harsh when you get outside.

It's VERY cold in NY in the winter. So stuff your suitcases with coats, scarfs, ear muffs, boots, mittens and hats!! During spring, just bring like a jacket. Believe it or not, it can snow in the Spring too.

New York in Winter. Well it has already starting getting cold in the East. I would suggest lots of socks, ear muffs, mittens, long underwear, scarfs, and warn boots. I would love to go to California. Want to switch!!??

Winters in NYC are no where near as brutual as in Chicago. Usually it's between 20 to 30 degrees, sometimes higher, once in a while lower.
