I am always hearing arguments on Christianity. Atheists and Christians wasting their time going on and on trying to prove they are right and shoving religion (or non-religion) down each other's throat.
Why must we even discuss these things? Sure, being Christians, we're supposed to spread the word, but not like that. God said her wants us to share his love with other, but he didn't mean it that way. He meant to simply show others love and compassion and that you are joyful about being a Christian, not saying that you are one, and then letting them come to you and ask what they can do to be like that too. It works.

So, my question is, what is going on? Why can't we just all keep our religions and beliefs to ourselves and stop picking fights? What is wrong with people? If you're a Christian, why don't you just leave the athiest alone? They are people with their own opinions. Sure, you may not like it, but how do you feel when people try to get you to turn away from God?Think about it

I don;t mean discussing it here. I just mean in general.

I didn't post this to make anyone mad. It was simply a question I've been wanting to ask for a while. I'm not trying to start an argument.

Thank you thank you thank you.

I come here for discussion and to hear other people's opinion. But too many people are here just to make fun of other people, or to be insulting, or to nyah nyah nyah nyah nyah at the "opposite side."

I really like it when I find a question that's thoughtful and intriguing and genuine. They make it worth the rest of the bs.

We all think what we believe is right (....otherwise, we wouldn't believe it....). I'd wager that most of us are OK with each other, except when one side's beliefs start creeping a little to close to the other side's rights. Atheists see Christians trying to write Christian beliefs into law, while Christians see Atheists' requests to keep everything secular as a threat to practice a religion. I'd say the former case is a little scarier, and the latter case is really unfounded....but then again I'm an Atheist...and I think I'm right. 8^) It's only natural.

Well i think there are a good number of athiests who like to jump on the christian. So probably works both ways. Yes, you are right and no one should fight each other, however standing back and looking at this objectively, compassion and love that christ showed is one thing but he brought truth at the same time. Truth balances compassion and love. If there is always compassion and love without truth and knowledge then its imbalanced.

Just a little thought that springs into my mind and i assume you have christian tendencies yourself is that little quotation in scripture from the bible and im always reminded of it at times and it says "the fool in his heart says there is no God".

Something to think about.

Yet another deluded Christian who can't grasp the fact that religion will be discussed in a forum devoted to religion. Why does Christianity leave all its adherents like Terry Schiavo?

i'm an atheist and the two appropriate arguments i've got heard for the existence of God are a million) you are able to no longer practice he would not exist 2) The Bible says that is real those arguments are fullyyt unsound, for this reason i'm an atheist.

I understand what you are saying/asking, and I agree 100%.

BUT not all Atheists and Christians argue with one another. I have noticed that many times it is some punk-kid instigating these arguments...

As for Christians... (I myself am LDS/Mormon), we should be better than this! Did Christ not teach us to love thy neighbor, and to be kind and loving towards one another??
If one day, an Atheist decided they were going to listen to what we had to say... we would NOT be setting a very good example to them.

Practice what you preach! You reap what you sow baby!

agreed, everyone has their own beliefs and most likely will not change them through an online argument. i'm christian and think it would be great to convince an athiest god is real, but some people just need to let it go. some people are just too pushy about their religion.

Atheists are uncomfortable with the Christian desire to legislate aspects of their faith to te detriment of freedom to live as one chooses according to one's OWN faith or lack thereof. For example:

1. Many Christians would outlaw a woman's right to choose whether or not to have a child based upon their sexual mores ("She should have kept her legs together if she didn't want a baby") and their belief that "God has a plan for you before you are even born" and that "God knit you in your mother's womb."

2. Many Christians object to same-sex unions because their Holy Book says that such unions are an "abomination unto the Lord."

3. Many Christians are willing in some instances to interfere with end-of life decisions such as the the Schaivo case. Atheists - and I'm sure many Christians and others - would like churches and congressmen to stay out of it.

4. Despite what you may have read here on R&S, evolution exists. It *does* happen and *has* happened. The Theory of evolution is just our best effort at understanding HOW it happens. many Christians would have us pretend that Creation is documented equally as well, and it simply isn't. Science is how America became a strong nation... we cannot allow anyone's faith to make us deny our children their right to a proper and complete education.

5. Many Christians would deny the hope of a cure to the millions suffering from cancer, ALS, alzheimers, MS, etc. simply because they think their God disapproved of stem cell research.

Atheists come here and discuss religion because religion is the impetus for the above threats made against non-Christians right to live as they see fit.

I agree. In order for somebody to even believe what I say I have to have their trust. In order to do that I must be honest and befriending to them. This has to be done from the heart not with the motive of winning them to my cause. If I am asked what I believe I will share it. Forcing it on someone will not work.

Seriously. The only time I'll actually stick a fight is when someone asks a rude question, or blatantly tells me that I'm going to whatever hell they believe in. Otherwise, I stick to myself and try not to ask mean questions. Live and let live.

Star for you, hon.

Uh, that's the whole purpose of this forum - to put your opinions across. Why else would you be here? And it's very amusing to read the judgemental and damning responses from many Christians, they so misrepresent the term Christian which actually translates to "Christ-like" - I love it!
