Because they deprive themselves of normal sexual relationships (even though the Bible never tells them to be celebate, in fact, they are told to have wives!), and this leads to unnatural desires.

Most acts of abuse against children have been hidden for decades within the church. There is no reason, even if as they are now saying that we must forgive, this is true but we must also protect. Protection of the innocent children should always be number one priority.

No doubt that the "pedophile community" or network figured this out and they chose this as their life's work.

The error that was done is forgiving without consequence. Those priests should have been prevented from diocese and should have been kept in a safe house until the investigation of allegation was confirmed or not. If confirmed they should have been stripped of their right to preach or be priests. Instead the churches want us to believe it is ok because they were forgiven. They should be ashamed for harboring the guilty and moving them from diocese to diocese when now it is being revealed more and more because people are recognizing that they were children at the time and were gravely taken advantaged of and what was done to them is a criminal act. The church should not be a harbor for criminals, forgive them if you will, it is for God to judge, but we have prisons to keep the general public safe. I hope more people come forward and expose all the priests that have taken advantgage of the church and its inadequate handling of these allegations, not reporting the offences to the legal system thereby allowing the offences and abuse to continue.

Many have lost faith in the catholic religion and/or their own faith when these actions come to light.

Before now a lot of people couldn't/wouldn't believe that someone from a church would do anything like that. But the very quality that the church ask of it members is to follow and trust that they are being lead properly. It used to be a funny story about ranchers doing strange stuff to their sheep and I guess that some of the religious shepards got the same idea! Society created this mess and society needs to take responsibility. No one should be trusted no matter what their title is. If people are considered a flock then man (the race) is just another animal!

this subject is getting old- YES IT IS HORRIBLE THAT THOSE PRIESTS MOLESTED THE KIDS- however, please do not put all priests, pastors and church people into the category. YES they are supposed to be "religious" and you know something they may even say that they were. Being religious does not make a person right - Christ makes people righteous- because apart from Him we are all sinners. Also there are FAR more molesters outside the church then in- so can we pray for all those who are sex offenders and hope that one day all people will not violate children like this. God and the church is not to blame- people are!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It appears that anyone can become a priest in the Catholic Church......perfect scenario for a pedophile or someone who is Gay that wants to enter the priesthood and take advantage of little boys. They need to check out the men they let into the priesthood. They need to do serious background checks and find out if these men are worthy of being around little children.. You know there are still children being taken advantage of and afraid to speak out.I wouldn't be surprised to find out that some of the priest who are not pedophiles or gay, may be raping the little girls...no one has come forward but it would be harder for a little girl to tell. They need to let their Priest marry...Where in the Bible does it require a priest or preacher not to marry? Nowhere.

because what they do is not natural. They try to live without sex. Which is a normal thing for a man to do.
1 Timothy 3:2 says a man of God an overseer or minister should be a husband of one wife.
1 Timothy 4:3 says to stay away from people or religion that forbids a man to marry.
1 corinthians 7:2 Because of the prevalence of fornication let each man have his own wife. and each women have her own husband. 3 Let the husband render to his wife her due and let the wife also do like wise to her husband.
If that was followed there wouldn't be the problems we see in the world today.
that is normal natural and the way God meant for us to be.

Hello,

Molestation seems to be a universal problem as of late from hockey coaches; football coaches; scout and community leaders through to Catholic priests and protestant ministers.
Sadly life is full of surprises like that and sometimes the greatest pillars in the communities turn out to be wolves in sheeps clothing. Sometimes the urge for carnal lust is much stronger than the spirit.

I'm not really sure but I'd love to know why. I wonder if it could be because they can't marry so they molest the teens and kids that trust and respect them because they think just maybe they won't know any better or have to low self esteem to tell anyone?

It's not only in the church, it almost exist in every religion. The only person to blame here is the culprit himself. If priests can't follow Bible's teaching and do not want to be confined to traditions, all they need to do is simply say ," I don't think I want to do this and I want to get married and live like you guys."
May be it is the expectation that they have to be single leads to this abuse.

They are humans. Just because they wear fascinating costumes and hold a bible in their hand, makes them any better. People outside abuse kids too and they are not priests.

It is because they limit themselves so much. If they were to get married like God has created them to do, they would not be in such temptation to rape and molest others. They ignore God's natural laws which indicate that women and men were created for eachother and place themselves as too holy to engage in natural sex. But they are still humans, so at times they become weak and molest or rape whatever and whoever is at hand. People who do not understand the ways of God do not belong in authority.

Maybe they entered the preisthood thinking that focusing totally on religion would cure them of desires for sex with underage boys or girls. But Jesus never did cure them and as they studied the bible more and discovered its dark side and realized its not true. Then they lost their faith and had access to those they were attracted to and they molested.
