Global warming is just the next big scare. 17,000 scientists have signed the "Petition Project" that states:
The global warming hypothesis has failed every relevant experimental test. It lives on only in the dreams of anti-technologists and population reduction advocates. The United States is very close to adopting an international agreement that would ration the use of energy and of technologies that depend upon coal, oil, and natural gas and some other organic compounds.
This treaty is, in our opinion, based upon flawed ideas. Research data on climate change do not show that human use of hydrocarbons is harmful. To the contrary, there is good evidence that increased atmospheric carbon dioxide is eviromentally helpful. The signatories and the petition in it's entirety can be found here: http://www.oism.org/oism/s32p31.htm

There is no doubt that global warming is real, and we will see devastating effects from it in our lifetime. What you are describing are just instant snapshots that virtually constitute a split second in the ecological clock. Scientists have shown that average temperatures have increased worldwide in the last 100 years. More importantly, after studying ice cores from the south pole dating back thousands of years, they've concluded that the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere has increased exponentially in the last 100 years. This increase far surpasses previous cyclical increases thousands of years before that, and is still trending upward. This is not sustainable for much longer and will lead to the demise of human-kind, unless we take drastic measures now.

First, there's no such thing as IF. With all the things we have pumped into the air and water, and the safety laws that have been established, you can't tell me it doesn't exist.
Global Warming has many differing effects. It can make for very cold winters too. Sounds like you've got some reading to do.

Global warming has two causes.
The first is natural causes that we have no control over.
The second cause is greenhouse gases, such as carbon dioxide that are released to the environment as the result of human activity on this planet.
To stop the component of Global Warming that is caused by human activity, we would have to eliminate the emission of almost all of the greenhouse gases that we release to the atmosphere as the result of human activity.
To accomplish that would require the cooperation of all of the countries in the world. The result would be that we would essentially shut down the economies of all of the countries in the world.
It is unrealistic to expect that we could ever get the amount of the reduction in the emission of greenhouse gases that we need to stop the component of Global Warming that is caused by human activity.
We must begin planning how we will respond to the changes on our world that will be caused by Global Warming.
The sea levels will rise.
Fortunately coastal cities can be protected from flooding by dike systems similar to those in Holland.
Hurricanes will become stronger and more frequent.
We will have to help the affected countries upgrade their disaster preparedness systems.
Droughts will become more frequent.
We will have to help with supplemental water supplies and desalination plants.
It is not realistic to expect that we will be able to avoid Global Warming.
We must begin planning now how we will respond to the changes in our world that will be caused by Global Warming.

You're confusing short term weather in one place with long term global climate.
Here's what the climate of the world is doing (and notice that individual years vary a lot):
http://data.giss.nasa.gov/gistemp/graphs/Fig.A2_lrg.gif
And here's why (mostly man made greenhouse gases):

While there are a (very) few skeptics the vast majority of scientists agree the scientific data proves global warming is real and mostly man made.
"There's a better scientific consensus on this [climate change] than on any issue I know... Global warming is almost a no-brainer at this point. You really can't find intelligent, quantitative arguments to make it go away."

I believe you mean cyclic, othewise you have a tornado on your hands. Global warming is real, its just not caused by Greenhouse gasses as some people want you to believe. It is actually caused by an increase in solar output. Ask any astronomer and they will tell you all of the planets in our system are experiencing "global warming". I could cite a dozen other facts here regarding this but it better if you do your own research and check the facts.

Global warming happens. It is natural. Global cooling happens. It is called Ice Ages and isn't so nice. I am enjoying the warming while it lasts.

You are right. This is groundbreaking. Now we can ignore all the evidence that thousands of qualified scientists have accumulated over decades and decades of research. Clearly, your town represents the climate patterns of the entire planet. Thank god I can finally stop believing global warming.
