Baptism is a sign and seal of God's grace. It replaces circumcision as a covenant between God and His people. It is a stamp, a marking of God's own, extended to the entire household, not just those above the age of reason. A lesser benefit is a profession of faith.

"Or do you not know that as many of us as were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into His death? Therefore we were buried with Him through baptism into death, that just as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life." (Romans 6:3-4)
The blood of Christ washes away our sins. (Revelation 1:5) This blood was shed at His death and we are saved by this blood. (Romans 5:8-10)
If we are to be washed by this blood, we must come into contact with His death where that blood was shed. We cannot be washed by the blood if we do not contact it.
Romans 6:3-4 (quoted above) says we are "baptized into His death." (See Colossians 2:12 also.) This is where we contact the saving blood.
Romans 6 also says we are "baptized into Christ". We cannot be saved outside of Christ.
There are many verses that talk about the blessings, including salvation, that are "in Christ". Romans 6:3 and Galatians 2:27, however, are the only verses I know of that use the phrase "into Christ". Both of these verses say to get "into Christ" we are "baptized into Christ".
Finally, Romans 6 says at baptism we "rise to walk in newness of life". We cannot be saved if we are not "born again" into this new life.
Another reason we need to get baptized is simply because Jesus commanded it! (Mark 16:16, Matthew 28:18-20, Luke 24:47 - compared to Acts 2:5 & 36)
Jesus is "the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him". (Hebrews 5:9) We cannot be saved in a state of disobedience.
Jesus said, "He that believes and is baptized shall be saved." (Mark 16:16)
Some men say that you believe, are saved, and then you shall be baptized. This is not the same thing Jesus said. It is not in the same order!
What would Jesus have said if he had meant "He that believes and is baptized shall be saved"?
I believe He said what he meant and meant what He said! I BELIEVE JESUS! "He that believes not shall be condemned." (Mark 16:16)
Why do we need to get baptized? Jesus said so! That should settle it! How can Jesus be "Lord of your life" if you won't do as he says? Jesus saves those who obey Him (Heb. 5:9).
Peter says, "Baptism now saves you -- not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a good conscience--through the resurrection of Jesus Christ," (1 Peter 3:21 , NASB)
(What would Peter have said if he had meant "baptism now saves"?)

Christian baptism, according to the Bible, is an outward testimony of what has occurred inwardly in a believer’s life. Christian baptism illustrates a believer’s identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. The Bible declares, “Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with Him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life” (Romans 6:3-4 NIV). In Christian baptism, the action of being immersed in the water pictures being buried with Christ. The action of coming out of the water pictures Christ’s resurrection.
In Christian baptism, there should be two requirements before a person is baptized: (1) the person being baptized must have trusted in Jesus Christ as Savior, and (2) the person must understand what baptism signifies. If a person knows the Lord Jesus as Savior, understands that Christian baptism is a step of obedience in publicly proclaiming his faith in Christ, and desires to be baptized – then there is no reason to prevent the believer from being baptized. According to the Bible, Christian baptism is simply a step of obedience, a public proclamation of one’s faith in Christ alone for salvation. Christian baptism is important because it is a step of obedience – publicly declaring faith in Christ and commitment to Him, and identification with Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection.

Do you know what baptizm is? It is basically a public decloration of your love for Jesus Christ and letting it be known to everyone that you are a follower of Christ. But it doesn't say in the bible that you have to be baptized to get to Heaven....so we don't NEED to get baptized...it's just a good idea =)

You don't. You come to Christ through faith not works. Promoters of baptism will tell you that baptism is a step of obedience but they cannot produce one verse anywhere in the Bible where a Christians is commanded to be baptized.

Because its an act of public confession of being buried with Jesus. Also if its done out of sincerity it will be a supernatural experience. However I don't believe its required for salvation because the guy on the cross next to Jesus was not baptised, and neither was any old testament bible figure.

great question- and one that is fairly easy to answer. Baptism does not save you- only the shed blood of Christ does that.
What Baptism is , is an outward expression of an inward change. So when you are dunked under the water, it symbolizes being crucified with Christ, and when you come up out of the water, it symbolizes being risen with Christ.

baptism is symbolic that you are dead to your old life and raised again in a new life as you go under the water and come up again. it is mainly a public expression of your faith to symbolize your new life in Christ and that you are a part of the group of believers.
