What do mormons believe? Tell me what you know about them?

2007-08-10 15:01:38 · 23 answers · asked by ? 3 in Society & Culture Religion & Spirituality

I am a faithful and active mormon. I just wanted to find out what people actually think of my religion. It does not change my beliefs at all and I did not intent it to. I know there are a lot of misconceptions about lds members and I wanted to see what they were. I would suggest to anyone who does not have very clear facts and might be more interested read the book of mormon or go to lds.org. We dont trick people to become mormons and our practices are not evil. We just say ask heavenly father for yourself if and you will get an answer. Thanks for all those that answered.

1 WE BELIEVE in God, the Eternal Father, and in His Son, Jesus Christ, and in the Holy Ghost.

2 WE BELIEVE that men will be punished for their own sins, and not for Adam’s transgression.

3 WE BELIEVE that through the Atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the Gospel.

4 WE BELIEVE that the first principles and ordinances of the Gospel are: first, Faith in the Lord Jesus Christ; second, Repentance; third, Baptism by immersion for the remission of sins; fourth, Laying on of hands for the gift of the Holy Ghost.

5 WE BELIEVE that a man must be called of God, by prophecy, and by the laying on of hands by those who are in authority, to preach the Gospel and administer in the ordinances thereof.
6 WE BELIEVE in the same organization that existed in the Primitive Church, namely, apostles, prophets, pastors, teachers, evangelists, and so forth.

7 WE BELIEVE in the gift of tongues, prophecy, revelation, visions, healing, interpretation of tongues, and so forth.

8 WE BELIEVE the Bible to be the word of God as far as it is translated correctly; we also believe the Book of Mormon to be the word of God.

9 WE BELIEVE all that God has revealed, all that He does now reveal, and we believe that He will yet reveal many great and important things pertaining to the Kingdom of God.

10 WE BELIEVE in the literal gathering of Israel and in the restoration of the Ten Tribes; that Zion (the New Jerusalem) will be built upon the American continent; that Christ will reign personally upon the earth; and, that the earth will be renewed and receive its paradisiacal glory.

11 WE CLAIM the privilege of worshiping Almighty God according to the dictates of our own conscience, and allow all men the same privilege, let them worship how, where, or what they may.

12 WE BELIEVE in being subject to kings, presidents, rulers, and magistrates, in obeying, honoring, and sustaining the law.

13 WE BELIEVE in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul—We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.

They're wonderful people. I don't agree with their religion but they live cleaner than any other people I have ever encountered. If you want to know more about thier religion call them. I guarantee you they'll be right out to give you "some" of the lowdown. The key word is some. They work you into the complexities of the religion very slowly.

It's funny you say that you "don't trick" people which isn't entirely true since you set this qeustion up in a not entirely straight forward way. Think about it you, you ,you LATTER DAY SAINT!!!! By the way I am THE ALL AMERICAN!!!! HA HA HA. Oh by the way I love you and all your Mormon brothers and sisters.

Joseph Smith said around 1830 that all other churches had fallen away from the truth and that he was called to restore the true church. He claimed he got his message from an angel. The angel's name was Moroni.

The Bible says if someone preaches another gospel, even if it came from an angel, let him be accursed.

That's found in Galatians chapter 1:

6I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:

7Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.

8But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

9As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

The two people in history who have best fulfilled that verse are Joseph Smith and Muhammad.

Which is why I believe the Mormon or LDS church is a false cult.

Since I can't type very fast, I can't tell you everthing I know about the Mormon church, but I've read the Book of Mormon, D&C and PGP.

D&C 132 says that men must practice polygamy to get to the highest level of heaven. And it says that the practice of multiple marriages must continue forever and it can never be changed. Yet it was changed.

If Joseph Smith is really a prophet, why do they defy him?

Obviously the Mormon leadership knows its all fake too.

The more I learn about the Mormon church the more convinced I am its a false cult.

The links below give more information about it.

My prayer is that you and everyone else will come out of it.

Your church is guilty of murder:

It was September 11, 1857. A wagon train of 160 settlers on their way to California was massacred by a bunch of Mormons dressed in Indian clothes. 17 children under the age of 8 were spared and lived to tell their story.
1st. They dressed as Indians but after five days they changed tactics.
2nd. Then they went a bit away ,dressed back into normal clothes and acted like the Rescue Party who had negotiated a deal with the"Indians".
3rd, Then confiscated all the guns as part of the deal for "saving" the travellers and Mormon dissidents( who were the reason for the attack in the first place).
4th. Took everybody off a mile or so and shot them all. 2 men got away but were eventually tracked down and killed a day or so later.
5th. Took the 17 children they had not killed back with them to Salt Lake City.
6th. Got away with it. After a publicized trial, with the childrens own testimony admitted into the court, only 1 man was convicted and shot, John D. Lee. ( pardoned by Church 1960) The church even protected over 100 other killers involved in this massacre from Federal prosecution thus making them guilty of Murder as accessories after the fact. Then they say "Thou Shalt Not Kill " doesn't apply to them . Only everyone else.

It ended up being called the Mountain Meadows Massacre. The first time in U.S. history that U.S. citizens were massacred on U.S. soil by religious wackos. This event is even more significant because the total U.S. population at the time was much smaller.(I dont know the exact numbers, maybe only 30 million or so) In todays numbers it would be around 1400 dead.

Well I had a very good friend who is a Mormon. She is the nicest person I have ever met. I know that Joseph Smith, a religious leader founded the Latter Day Saint movement; a movement also known as Mormonism. He received direct word from God and compiled his work in a book. Most of them live in Utah and University support and financially helps you if you are a Mormon and married at an early age.

I am surprised no one mentioned salamanders and the religious confusion of the times before, during and after the LDS church was established, and how the words for the book of Mormon were transcribed?
Regardless, they mean well and the prosper and share.

Our pastor at church has given us a lot of insight and info about the Mormons. He and a group of about 20 from our church went to Santequin area in Utah and witnessed to them and helped with a small Baptist church there. So, needless to say, our church as a whole is pretty interested in the LDS. It would take a long time to get into all the details so I would HIGHLY recommend going to this websight: http://www.goodnewsforlds.com/video.html

My Mother had a wonderful friend that had left the Mormon church...mainly because she had found Jesus and was filled with the Holy Spirit...and once she was, her eyes were opened...

I know enough, from info from her, and info I researched... but don't feel qualified to share that info since it's been quite a number of years now, and, hopefully, some things have changed...

Peace be with you :)

That a criminal and charlatan named Joseph Smith wrote a book called the Book of Mormon...which he passed off as having found golden plates buried in the ground which he "translated". And he founded a religion based on this book and preached that men should take many wifes so as to multipy that much faster. He was killed for this and Brigham Young took the followers to Utah where they lived and prospered for years before once again being forced to give up polygamy.

There are many other beliefs...one being baptism of the dead. Temple marriages and the wearing of protective underwear. Many levels of heaven with a complex arrangement of travel between them and eventually becoming a god of your own planet.
