You have asked a good question. But sorry you can't have a credit card by yourself at the age of 13, even also at the age of 14. It is better to first possess adequate knowledge about using credit before going on to obtain one.

However, you could ask your dad or mom to add your name as an authorised user to one of his/her credit cards that he/she has used for more than two years and which does not have a late fee on it.

When you attain the age of 18 or 19, you could apply for a credit card by yourself if you wish to then. Therefore, it is not appropriate to apply for something that you don't have ample knowledge about, or that you don't know how it works!

For now, please pay more attention to your studies - and at the appropriate time, you would be able to obtain credit.

With your parents approval, you can have a credit card. Most issuers will require you to be a signatory on your parents' account.

There are prepaid debit cards, like Visa Buxx, designed especially for teens. On those cards, your parents set limits on what you can buy and how much you can spend each day. This is the route I chose for my teen daughter to help her learn to budget and track her spending.

Prepaid means you give them the money before you buy anything. You are also to young to be a party to a contract, which you would be.

Your parents can get one for you to use, though. Just remember, pay first, buy later.

Why would you want to start using credit at this age? PLEASE don't go down that road any sooner than you have to.
