Muslims say the terrorists have hijacked their religion. Why don't "true muslims" declare Jihad against terrorists? Why aren't they fighting to defend Islam from those whom they say are not really representing it?

Where are the moderate Muslims in America? Why have they been so silent? I get they are against the war, hate George Bush, etc.
But stand up, make your case for crying out loud. BE HEARD!

I'm a Muslim, I live within walking distance from the 2005 bombings of hotels in Amman.
those terrorists are brain-washed un-educated people, most of them didn't even go to school.
Noone is allowed to speak outloud about things, cause altho terrorists are not exactly found walking down the street, religion in general (whether Islam or Christianity) are such sensitive issues that regular people like me are not allowed to discuss.
It's sad.

Who says they're not? Why should moderate, rational Muslims have to defend their religion to the world? There are all kinds of nutty religious people and factions in the world, including Christians, so should mainstream Christians be responsible for all of them?

Basically ALL religious people believe that their ONE religion is the only true path, and it is always in their interest to convert others and eradicate opposition. This POV will only lead to conflict and violence. Liberal Muslims and Christians may deny this but they are only giving cover to the relgious fanatics.

They are. My husband is reading a book by ? Ramadan that is a biography of Mohammad that is very instructive and encouraging.
