What do you think about the charismatic gifts debate today? "Are the sign gifts present today? Why or why not?"

We are all given gifts. Gifts are your "bent" in life. The things you are good at without having to work hard on.

The sign gifts are mostly seen when missionaries go out to spread the gospel in remote areas although many people pray in tongues. However, there are also counterfeit gifts. As one Pastor who has planted 40 churches in India and who has the gift of tongues although he is in no way a Charismatic put it "If you see someone speaking in tongues on Sunday and yelling at his wife in his native language the rest of the week you are not seeing a person who is filled with the Holy Spirit".

1 John 4:1 Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, for many false prophets have gone out into the world.

My Pastor tells a story about how his father was healed miraculously as a young man after he got a severe hernia that the doctors told him after they operated he would probably not be able to have children. He went to a small church in Philadelphia where there was a woman with the gift of healing on the bus and when the brothers saw him limping off the bus they carried him into the healing service. When the woman saw him being carried in she said "If that man who claims that God is calling him to be a preacher wants to be healed then let him demonstrate his faith by walking up here on his own!"

When he finally made it up to the front in agony the woman said "Satan loose this man in Jesus' name!" and he sprang up and was totally healed.

That's how God works. He does his miracles in small settings for a specific purpose. He doesn't do them on TV for some carnal preacher to exalt himself and bilk his followers out of a bunch of cash.

Yes but not in the buildings of organized religious gatherings pretending to be a church. I once fell under conviction because I couldn't speak in tongues on demand, and I was told that I didn't have the "Holy Spirit". If only I would listen to another person's utterance and chant it, I would soon be filled.

God's true followers with gifts, like Elisha are in the feild working.

Each individual, who comes to God in The Way He prescribes, has a gift/talent/ability that God can use through that individual to reach others with the Salvation Message...and/or help others in some way that will aid them in finding The Way to God... Those are the "gifts" of The Bible within each of God's people. not all "gifts" are in All ... but all have a Gift.
