Cats don't go for "joyrides" anywhere. You must have left your cat in the car while you went inside Pizza Hut and came back to a "dead cat."
I'm sorry for your loss....but also upset that you would be so CRUEL to your CAT. You noted that the cat was panting and did nothing.
You noted that your cat was scared and did nothing.
Tell your parents immediatey.
Call your vet immediately or local emergency pet clinic and see if they suggest anything.
I would not be looking into owning another cat/dog for a long, long time!
Yes, your parents are going to be mad......but they certainly have every right too. You sound more frightened about your parents then your cat. Poor thing.

First off if you wanted to take a joyride with something, it should've been a dog, not a cat. Cats hate car rides. Apparently being old enough to drive, you should know that animals need ventilation and when they pant it means they are hot. The poor thing probably died of a heat stroke and you should know better. I'm sure you'll come up with a good lie for your parents. Your apparently irresponsible and probably lied before. I don't know where you are, but we've had a heat wave here and anyone with half a brain wouldn't have left a cat in a closed car.

I don't understand how your cat could die from being in the car with you during a ride to the Pizza Hut. If you have air conditioning or the windows rolled down, the cat should have had plenty of ventilation.
The only way it could have died is if you left it in the car while you were in the restaurant. They can suffocate very quickly.
If the cat is actually DEAD as you say nothing will bring it back. If you feel a pulse or see any other signs of life, rub the cat vigorously with cool wet towels and try some CPR.

Usually cats do not like car rides, so he was probably very nervous and scared. Also, does that mean that you left the cat alone in the car while you went into Pizza Hut?? If so.....you should KNOW better than that.
If he's been gone this long...there's no bringing him back now. I'm sorry, but you'll have to tell your parents the TRUTH. And hope that you learned a valuable lesson.

My husband and I took our 2 year old cat with us home for the holidays (11 hour drive each way, both Thanksgiving and Christmas). Everything actually went very well, but I think we also just have a really mellow cat. Some things that worked for us: -Bringing a crate and a harness/leash, so that our cat couldn't bolt out of the car when we stopped. -Bringing our cat's litter box with a small amount of litter (she never used it, but it gave us piece of mind) -We did not give our cat food or water for several hours before the trip (to prevent carsickness and trips to the litter box; although we did give our cat small amounts of water during the trip, and she never did use the litter box) -We also packed a few toys and played with our kitty during the trip; it also provided us with entertainment during the long car ride. Our vet suggested that we take short car rides with our cat first to gage their comfort in the car and did let us know that some cats do travel better with sedatives. You may want to call your vet and ask if that is an option.

I suspect you are telling only part of the story. Yes, cats can freak out while being in a car, since their usual trip in a car is to a vet. But you said panting. I suspect you went inside to have a pizza and left the cat in the car, with the windows closed. And it sure got hot in a closed car in the summer.
You had better fess up to what really happened, and be prepared to face the consequences. In some places, if an animal dies due to being stuck in a hot car, there are criminal consequences.

You have learned a valuable lesson. Most cats don't like car rides and find them stressfull. Also a hot car in the summer time can kill an animal or even a person.
You can't bring the cat back alive, but when your parents' see how upset and sorry you are, maybe they won't punish you excessively.

Im not exactly sure what went wrong here, but as everyone else has said, cats don't much like car rides, as most dogs do.
Your cat could have suffered a heart attack. My friends cat died of a heart attack after the blanket she was sitting was pulled from underneath her and she freaked out and died. Or perhaps your cat already had a pre-exsisting issue. I do not know, if you want answers, take it to the vet.

It was heat exhaustion. Cats pant when they get hot, you should have turned on the air conditioning and placed the cat in front of the vents. If it is dead then there is pretty much nothing you can do, make sure it hasn't just passed out from the heat.

did you give the cat pizza?
if so you poisoned it . If you left the cat in the car while you went in and it was hot- it died of heat prostration (Stroke).
Looks like you will have to face the consequences.
If the cat died from the car ride it may have had a heart attack from the motion sickness . My deepest sympathy to you and your parents.
