Simple, US/Canada have 6 month visa waiver but you can't work or go to school. So it's really no big deal. Jan/2008 you'll need a passport but for now driver license & birth certif.

There is NO red tape involved. U.S. citizens may go to Canada for 6 months at a time without a visa. Just GO. Read the Entry requirements section on the webpage below. If you wish to study or work in Canada then you must apply for a visa. Contact info for these purposes is also on that web page.

It will depend on a few things, our immigration is backed up as well and it'd probably take much longer for you to be deported than 6 months. The main red tape is if you need to work or whether you are just coming up for a visit. There are time limits so I'd suggest you visit the Government of Canada website, click on immigration and read for yourself what is involved as I'd hate to steer you wrong. By the way, check out my profile, you now know someone in Canada, we live about a 14-16 hour drive north by northeast of New York City in New Brunswick, great area, beautiful beaches, relatively cheap cost of living, full of friendly people. Lobster season begins tomorrow in our area. All of our provinces have websites you can check out as well. Hope to see you up here, you may never want to go home, I know my grandparents didn't.

It's not a problem;-} we Canadians spend a lot ot time in the US.
These days, you'll need a passport to cross the border.
You probably need a destination or itinerary if they ask.
You would not be able to work for employment easily.
That requires a special visa etc.
