Hard to tell. Men don't become sterile ever, but as they get older they may have a lower sperm count (but 40 isn't that old). At the same time you could be having fertility problems too. Without going to a fertility doctor, there's no way to tell.

could be either --- males have fathered children well into their 80's --- you are still in your prime child bearing years ---- you need to have fertility check made on both of you ---- best wishes
