Well, if you only speak one language fluently, and you're writing and asking your question in English, then one would assume that English is the language you are fluent in. Am I correct?
My mother tongue is English, and I also speak Spanish. I know enough sign language to communicate and have fun. I have studied Esperanto and enjoy it as a hobby interest, and I'm currently working on Koine (Biblical) Greek.

My first language, and the only one I can speak fluently, is English.
However, I can speak a little bit of French, Spanish, basic German, Hindi, Polish, and Greek. I'm trying to learn more Greek, but the main language I'm working on right now is German, since I'm living in Germany. I just learned enough French to get by for when we went to Paris, and enough Polish to get by for when I go to Poland (I've only gone once, so far, but I'm hoping to go again soon. I LOVE that country!).

I speak English but I'm taking Spanish at school and I understand a little bit of French because my mother used to yell at me in French.

In the era of globalization, one needs to have a practical knowledge of at least three languages. If we take for granted the primacy of the mother tongue, then what comes next would depend on your location, even though at the moment it cannot ignore the relevance of English on a world-wide scale.

English, and that is the only language I should have to speak in the United States of American. I go to another country to live, then I will learn that language or not live there; but, English has long been the tie that binds in this multi-cultural nation. We destroy that at great risk.
