I don't know, but I think whoever designed them is the same jack*** that designed cling wrap! They did it just to piss me off!

Great isn't it ?
the >>>>>>> bit is presumably there to make sales folks giggle when the sandwich or whatever flies off into the middle distance, due to frustration, so that you may have to go and buy another one.
The <<<<<<< does not work either.
Corned beef tins are a good one for this.
A pair of pliers will suffice, as the little key is missing.
Where would we be without those multi-sized bottle/can openers.
There must be millions of unopened pickle jars out there, as the only way in is with a hammer.
The >>>>>>>> strip should be banished in favour of a sensible notion.
I have to vacumn the car every time my kids attempt to open a snack bag of something.
The <<<<<<<<<<<< strip is worse. One needs to be left-handed, which does not bother me too much, as I am seemingly multi-dexterous, but given either >>> or<<<, a lot of the contents still go flying.
Some packaging people are taking the rise.

Now, where is the tin opener to turn the telly on ?

They tear that way to make it difficult for you to get into the package so that by the time you do get into it, you have cursed it and promised never to buy it again.
