In the Old Testament, a single false prophecy was potentially grounds for being put to death. Claiming to have a personal message from God is serious business, because of the potential misuse of this claim for manipulation and evil.

Once.

Deuteronomy 18:20 But the prophet who presumes to speak a word in my name that I have not commanded him to speak, or who speaks in the name of other gods, that same prophet shall die.'

21 And if you say in your heart, 'How may we know the word that the LORD has not spoken?'-- 22 when a prophet speaks in the name of the LORD, if the word does not come to pass or come true, that is a word that the LORD has not spoken; the prophet has spoken it presumptuously. You need not be afraid of him.

A false prophet is wrong most of the time. I believe if anyone is wrong ever, then they are a false prophet.

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim - In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Hello. In Islam, prophets are believed to not make any mistakes in the message that they convey. They are protected by God from making mistakes because God uses them as a vessel for carrying the message. In their daily lives, in things which are not connected to revelation, they may make a mistake in some way, but they are protected from sinning. In this way Islam looks at the prophets quite differently than Christianity. We do not believe that Noah got drunk, that Moses disobeyed God by striking the stone instead of speaking to it, that David committed adultery and murder, or that Lot committed incest, may Allah forgive me for even writing such things about prophets of God. The prophets were human but they were the best humans, people we could always look up to and strive to emulate. And Allah knows best.

I pray that Allah guides you to that which is best in this world and the next. Ameen.

Fi Aman Allah,

Nancy Umm Abdel Hamid

According to the Bible it is once! Deuteronomy 18:22 When a prophet speaketh in the name of the LORD, if the thing follow not, nor come to pass, that is the thing which the LORD hath not spoken, but the prophet hath spoken it presumptuously: thou shalt not be afraid of him.

Unfortunately, prophets are men (or women) and thus flawed. Because they are by nature imperfect, they have the capacity to wrongly interpret their own visions. The Bible itself, having been written by men, has multiple flaws and misinterpreted passages. It doesn't make anyone any less a prophet, it simply makes them human.

A prophet can make as many mistakes as they like, as long as they predicted beforehand that they would do so.

If the prophet said specifically something from God it should always come true. If it is in the realm in which people have freewill then people can decide to go against what God has planned for them, but it will only hurt them in the end. But if it is not a question of freewill, it should always come true.

Actually, a prophet can be wrong all the time. What counts is getting his/her followers to be wrong once and to stay that way.
