As a person that also feeds stray cats...I believe you will can its trust to a degree. Think of a name to name the cat..and start calling it by that name...talk in a soft friendly voice. But..you probably will never get to where you can pick up the cat..but mine will actually rub against my legs..And I wouldn't try and touch cat..at least not at this time..because cat bites can be very serious..so take precautions..

First let me say that is great that you are feeding this cat, and you care for it, but please DONT stop feeding it now.
It is becoming dependant on you.
Keep a schedule as much as you can for feeding. Put the food closer to you, and just sit. Sudden movements and loud noises will scare kitty.
It has been abandondened by some ****** and needs to relearn trust.
DO be careful of cat diseases especially if you have others in the home.

If your cat has been out there for awhile it may well be feral they generally will not become your friend and let you pet them even if they will come to your house looking for the food you put out but it doesn't hurt to try. Please be very careful though because feral cats can carry a host of things you don't want to introduce to yourself or your other animals. If you do get it to start trusting you and coming to you and can afford it, take it right away to a vet and get it checked out and its shots....if you can afford to even if its feral, then by all means trap it and take it to be tested spade or neutered and have some shots and let it go again and keep feeding it if you like it that much...I have done this with four feral cats in my neck of the woods it keeps the mice down in the fields and the cats from spreading disease and reproducing. It also lets them live another day even if they don't want human companionship. Most people would have feral cats put down, by catching the ones near my home and taking them to the vet and paying to have them checked out given shots and given the all clear of rabies these cats get to continue in the environment they were born in. Feral cats do not make house pets and usually cannot be turned around even with kindness these four have been coming to my home for food for 5 years now everyday 3 times a day and during the winter months they winter in my shed which I installed a pet door in and fill a box with straw and blankets for extra warmth. As much as I try to make friends with them they will not come within 10 feet of food or me if I stay there. even after all these years. I could have had the SPCA trap them and kill them because that is what would have happened. I figured my most humane option was to make sure they didn't reproduce weren't sick and to make sure they had food and shelter. I know of many others doing the same including a vet that gave up her practice just to spay and neuter feral cats at her own expense.

You aren't wasting your time
Also try holding out your finger and let it approach your finger
Sitting or crouching is the way to appear to it, standing is more intimidating.
It usually takes a couple or three weeks with older kittens so long as you are calm and let it get used to you
Good luck!!

It will get used to you but the older it is the longer it will take. You may be able to touch it when it is busy eating, especially if it is eating something really good like tuna or canned cat food.

Perhaps you should call a local animal rescue society. They wlil be able to get it to a vet and give it any treatment it may need, as well as find it a great home.
Don't call the humane society or animal control --they'll likely put it to sleep within a week's time, unfortunately.

I did that to and eventually it will get used to you and you would be able to touch it, but that might take awhile. If you could get close enough you should really catch it and take it to the local animal shelter so they can give it it's shouts and Neuter/spay it and check if it has no diseases.Maybe you could adopted it its healthy that's what i did!

does it look sick, underweight, or wounded? you need to provide it with water too. dont give it table scraps, feed it real cat food. once it gets used to you, bring it to the animal shelter or vet asap. and dont approach it too fast you might scare it off
